This question about living in role for 2 years is a tricky one.

Out of interest, does anyone know in theory you can reverse a GRC?

Manderleyagain · 21/04/2021 15:15

Some live tweeting on #wesc

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 15:16

Thanks, I shall hop on..

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/04/2021 15:23

Hats off to these women. The tact is torturous and it has to be spelled out so clearly.

YES there are people who want it to be fast, easy and cheap to change legal sex
YES there are people who want to easily change birth certificates to say what they would prefer them to say.

The ISSUE is that this massively increases the entry of male people into female only spaces, which does not work for all women

So give them out like sweets if you want

AND

add additional spaces while making clear that some provisions are reserved for the use of female people only and there is no mechanism by which a male person can use those reserved spaces.

That will be unacceptable to some male people. And that is tough, because it's not only them who matter in terms of inclusion and feelings.

Scepticaltank · 21/04/2021 15:29

Does anyone know the names of the questioners?

WhereAreWeNow · 21/04/2021 15:31

They're all doing such a brilliant job. I'm so glad that these formidable women are being given the chance to give evidence.

HamsterV2 · 21/04/2021 15:35

Whilst Nicola Williams et al are doing a fantastic job today, I feel this consultation is just a waste of time. The GRA needs to be repealed because it is now incompatible with the rights of women and brings up a range of safeguarding issues due to the expansion of the trans umbrella/definition by Stonewall and others.

It was fit for purpose at the time, and now it's not.

(...and this is from someone who went through the process and has one)

Currently de-transitioners would need to go through the process again in reverse.

Whereas Dr Green has suggested there should be a revocation option (comparing it to divorce as the option if marriage turns out to not be the lifelong status a person intended it to be).

Scepticaltank · 21/04/2021 15:40

I think the question about false declaration just makes that absolutely obvious doesn't it HamsterV2?

I'm inclined to agree, but I do think the speakers are putting forward suggestions for what needs to be looked at in any repeal, so hopefully the consultation replies and and what is being said at the oral representations will be a valuable resource for the future?
Leafstamp · 21/04/2021 15:43

I'm pleased to hear the fairly frequent use of the phrase 'legal fiction'.

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/04/2021 15:47

Hamster here here.

committees.parliament.uk/committee/328/women-and-equalities-committee/membership/

I found the names. I wonder if we are going to get the aggressive Peter Gibson on again.

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/04/2021 16:16

I've had to turn it off. That panel is so depressingly stuck in their superior wokeness that they cannot give fair hearing to the issues with their beliefs. They all flinch every time male violence is mentioned, you can see how uncomfortable those facts make them, and now we're back to the good old chestnut of misogyny that unless it's proven beyond all doubt that enough women are dead because of it, no women have any business wanting to get undressed and be vulnerable in front of any random male who wishes to be with them. Or having feelings or needs or faiths or disabilities incompatible with the preferences of the random male.

Just too angry to watch any more.

Tibtom · 21/04/2021 16:21

What does living in a female role mean? Using Women's spaces whilst they are both actually and legally men? Forcing others to use language in a way that distorts the truth?

highame · 21/04/2021 16:28

I love the fact that the EHRC is getting a bit of a roasting

Thanks for this.

I don't understand enough about the process. Who are the panel/committee members, as in what is their role? What will they now do with the information they have heard? Do they make decisions?

I'd love it if someone could educate me here.

334bu · 21/04/2021 16:55

Well done ladies.Flowers

oldwomanwhoruns · 21/04/2021 16:56

It's finished now... I only heard the later part. Yup the committee did not come across as sympathetic, especially the young lady who kept demanding stats? Surely it is the responsibility of gvmt to get stats, not an impoverished women's organisation??

Racquel (spelling?sorry) was fantastic. Clear concise and we'll argued.

Scepticaltank · 21/04/2021 16:57

Well Raquel ended that on a very powerful note about the abusive environment in which women talk about their rights.

AND DON'T WE KNOW IT.

Quite. It proves there isn't really such thing as gender that isn't mainly based on stereotypes.

Live as you like, but if you are male sex, please don't come into female single sex spaces.

oldwomanwhoruns · 21/04/2021 17:03

Were they being prevented from talking about trans widows and male abusers in a clear and unambiguous way? When I tuned in, the speaker (sorry, I couldn't identify) was having such problems getting her point across. She was trying to talk about the 'transitioning partner' and the 'spouse' it was all very difficult to follow. Would have been so much easier if she could have used the words describing their sex.

EightiesRobot · 21/04/2021 17:05

The women were all fantastic, especially in the face of the attitudes of the committee. Well done all of you 💜💚💜💐

Scepticaltank · 21/04/2021 17:12

Kim Johnson was unpleasant

Here she is having a go at JKR

Shame on you actually Kim. You are ridiculous.

highame · 21/04/2021 17:18

Leafstamp This committee will do a report and send to government who will then decide what they want to do about it. It's good to have that stuff recorded. There for all time so no one can say they weren't informed of the issues.

Are there more hearings?
