Great thank you for the link. One of the many benefits of working from home is that I can listen to this.

ChattyLion · 21/04/2021 08:31

Thanks for links. Best of luck to all contributing today. We are all behind you!

Thank you for doing this, TinselAngel. Star

TinselAngel · 21/04/2021 11:27

Just to be clear, Trans Widows Voices will be receiving written questions after the session and submitting answers in a couple of weeks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/04/2021 11:52

The responses to the WESC tweet about this from TRAs are quite something!

TinselAngel · 21/04/2021 12:02

I think I'm going to switch Twitter off for the rest of the day!

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 21/04/2021 12:27

The mind totally boggles at this response "these groups want us dead in camps, tortured and broken!"

Do they genuinely believe that? Or do they just want to believe it because they like the idea of being the victim?

Interesting how some TRAs like inventing things about feminists and then shouting them like they're facts. Makes it look like they have no genuine accusations to make.

Hate groups, nasty hate groups, they all want trans people dead, they're all nazis, blah blah fucking blah.

Do they ever have a break from being so bloody dramatic 😒

Unfortunately I'm getting my bike fixed then but I'll catch up later.

Datun · 21/04/2021 12:48

Sometimes it pays to take a look at who's saying it (hint NSFW).

Leafstamp · 21/04/2021 12:55

Those twitter responses are just embarrassing.

Datun, I'm not getting the hint Blush

Sophoclesthefox · 21/04/2021 13:04

having seen all of the wailing and teeth gnashing on Twitter about how “why aren’t they asking trans people?!?”, I’ve just spent half an hour reading through the testimony given last month by representatives from Stonewall, GIRES, Mermaids and the Beaumont society.

Very interesting it was, too

committees.parliament.uk/committee/328/women-and-equalities-committee/publications/

At one point, it appears that the GIRES representative fails to mute themselves and swears at a member of the committee. The question the committee member was asking that caused the outburst was around the interplay with the EA 2010 and the issue of single sex exemptions.

What an interesting reaction to that particular topic.

Anyway, while some of the stories were reasonably articulated, I thought that overall the evidence was a bit short on...evidence.

I wonder how it will compare to this afternoon’s evidence?

Which bit? NSFW? - not safe for work.

Which is a good warning re the content under some of those profiles.

Leafstamp · 21/04/2021 13:11

Ah, thank you, I did google and got the not safe for work acronym but was being a bit slow on the uptake.

Have had lunch now, so hopefully firing on all cylinders for this afternoon. Is anyone else a bit excited/nervous?!

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/04/2021 13:31

Checking in as have been thinking of Tinsel and the other brave women sharing evidence today.

And yes, the drama and the meltdowns when anyone else gets a say even for one day is quite something to behold. But extremely useful for the committee to see the hyperbole, the extremist language used in bids for sympathy and attention the second anyone else even gets to speak, or to try and frame anyone who might have anything to say that is not wholly and solely about what is wanted. It's not healthy, balanced stuff.

About to start

PiglingBlandIII · 21/04/2021 14:47

Has Caroline Nokes turned up for this one? The Welsh lady seems to be leading - was there anyone else at the beginning?

PiglingBlandIII · 21/04/2021 14:48

I don't understand the relevance of the question re. the two year delay in proposals for reform and this review being a problem?

Are they trying to blame the feminists for holding things up? Surely the government control the timing?

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/04/2021 14:51

Incredibly tactful stepping around it. The complaint from Stonewall et al about the 2 year debate is that it gave women time to organise and be heard.

That is being seen as a failure, so lots of 'it turned toxic because of 2 year delay and you gave time for women to force democracy to take notice of them and put brakes on our agenda ' complaints.

And women framed as causing problems BY organising, speaking and pointing out the problems for them.

Wow! is there anything else that we should be blamed for?

Just outrageous that women should possibly object to having their word redefined and the impact on such changes to the law.

Welsh lady seems reasonably smiley atm - I might be wrong but she came across less smiley to the feminists in previous sessions?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 14:59

Is anyone transcribing. I'm in a silent zone!

PiglingBlandIII · 21/04/2021 15:00

Raquel makes an excellent point about if they want to make the bureacracy for GRC kinder and cheaper they should be looking at doing that for all official bureacracy like disability payments and immigration.
