Received an email today from her secretary. Can’t get into details but she (JKR) wanted to donate something to my workplace and the secretary asked me to deal with it.
I couldn’t not say anything, so after answering to the points addressed in her email I also said that I appreciated what JKR has been doing for women. I really feel like I almost connected with her today, I know it’s silly, but it made my day to be able to write that.

Btw, she doesn’t want the donation to be publicly (within my workplace) acknowledged.

She's got a new standalone Christmas kids book coming out in October that sounds utterly adorable. I'll be buying one each for my many, many nieces and nephews.

Why on earth did you post this OP? She wanted to remain anonymous and her wishes should have been respected in all ways. We already know she is a very generous woman and supports organisations. If there is any way this can be tracked back, you will need to ask yourself why you posted

high the OP has given no info away other than JK has donated something. It’s not a secret that JK donates a huge amount to charities, so the OP isn’t telling us anything new.

More or less my point Lizzie . It must be very difficult for JKR to trust anyone because of the amount of hate she gets, so I suppose my thoughts were around, privacy in everything. She is so important to women and I for one would not have revealed anything - just me perhaps?

Complainers will complain. I was told that she didn’t want my colleagues and the people we work with to know that ‘this’ came from her. I was not told that I could not ever name her in public and say that she did something kind in her life.

Every time there is a mass pile-on on JKR the DC get treated to a fancy hardback Harry Potter title. They've amassed quite a few now and they are beautiful editions but it's sad to think each one represents a social media attack on a woman who has done so much good, simply for speaking her mind.

I’m with you, CatChant. I bought one of JKR’s Cormoran Strike books purely to show solidarity, but loved it and bought the whole series. It makes me chuckle to think that the TRA pile on resulted in JKR getting five extra book sales!

I bought all the strike books as a show of support, then bloody loved them. I hadn’t got round to reading any of her non Harry Potter stuff, despite absolutely loving that series. I imagine there are quite a few people who’ve done the same. Silver linings I guess?!

Anyway, I hope she was cheered by your response OP. I hope she knows just how many women really appreciate her bravery as well as her wonderful books. One of my heroes.

Yes, I also got into the Strike books because of all the kerfuffle (all now bought on kindle, & recommended to friends).

I hadn't previously bothered with the series, mostly because honestly I was a bit HP'd out by then, given that once I'd finished reading them the dc were old enough to start! Plus I hadn't liked The Casual Vacancy much...so wasn't rushing to read the Strike series.

But I bought the first out of a wish to show solidarity with JKR.

Anyway...it turned out to be excellent, so win-win. Ended up devouring the series.

Yep, another one who put my money where my mouth was and bought the Strike books (and then discovered I really liked them!).

I imagine the general public have almost no idea of how much good she has done, and does, with the wealth she's amassed, with very little publicity unless it will directly benefit the charity involved.

I think even more of her that she continues to do good when others might have been tempted to stuff humanity and just enjoy their millions.
