Anyone else completing paper census being chased to do census again?

I completed a paper census and included suggested letter in terms of handling data but it doesn't seem to have got to the census office Hmm They want me to do it online which of course means can’t include a letter.

Has anyone else had this happen to them

Yes and then I went and completed it online and still had a letter. So I have completed it twice.

I will take great delight in responding to any attempt at a fine and going to explain in court how many times I have filled it in.

NiceCardigan · 13/04/2021 18:01

I’ve had three letters and two visits. I told the census person yesterday that I’ve completed a paper version and where and when I posted it so they can stop harassing me now.

The census person said the post room for paper versions seems to be updating the system very slowly so they’ve been told to bugger off by several people who have completed paper ones.

ginandwineandbaileys · 13/04/2021 18:14

Yes I've had this. The last one that knocked on my door, actually rudely asked me whether I know what the census is. I gave him short shrift. I've also filled in the paper one and an online form

Congressdingo · 13/04/2021 18:17

Hmmm no, so far no one has come round and we did a paper one. Strange.

PronounssheRa · 13/04/2021 18:19

Yes. I told them I had completed a paper one, don't plan on doing a second online.

I'm assuming they just haven't got round to the data entry for the paper versions yet.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/04/2021 18:19

Hopefully this has been caused by the number of women sending in paper forms...

Tangledtresses · 13/04/2021 18:27

Ooh saw a census person today knocking on doors... Why is it a legal requirement?
I filled mine out online

Congressdingo · 13/04/2021 18:30

I actually wondered if they rowed back on the sex question because of the number of requests for paper forms. I expect they were ready for only a few in the scheme of it, but were inundated with multiples more than that.
Lordamighty · 13/04/2021 18:33

I had a letter quite soon after the census date, I ignored it as I assumed they hadn’t got round to inputting my paper version.
I have no intention of completing it online.

Did you include the letter re handling your data accurately Congressdingo

I did the paper one but didn’t include a letter. Haven’t heard from them.

I did, no reply as yet.

Fallstar · 13/04/2021 19:28

I did a paper one and included a letter. I photographed it before I sent it as proof that I'd done it, in case it got lost in the post!

Had a letter from the census people the following week asking me to complete online but nothing since, so I assume they have now received the paper copy.

persistentwoman · 13/04/2021 20:09

2 reminder letters and four visits.
I may have got quite cross with the last two officials Blush . But they haven't been back in the last 4 days so maybe someone's finally registered the paper copy.

Zeugma · 13/04/2021 20:52

Interesting. I did a paper form and included the letter - I haven't heard anything back. DH the same and also nothing further. I wonder if we'll be chased?

NiceCardigan · 13/04/2021 21:06

I’m quite cross now - I saw my neighbour on the drive and she said that census people knocked on her door a few days ago when we were out and said we hadn’t completed the census and did she know where we were. It’s annoying enough them chasing without bothering our neighbours as well.

Honestly what a crap system if they can’t register a paper version.

poshme · 14/04/2021 08:32

I saw an article somewhere (which I now can't find) that said they've had issues with the recording of paper returns, which is why people keep getting reminders.

poshme · 14/04/2021 08:39

Front page of the telegraph

Census IT fiasco as people who have already completed survey are repeatedly urged to do so

HeronLanyon · 14/04/2021 08:49

Completed paper version with accompanying letter/rant. Weeks ago.
Had interesting shouted intercom discussion with census checker just yesterday (intercom levels bit dodgy). Know I could have walked down but out of the blue and was in lockdown pjs/disarray etc. Several neighbours now know when and how I completed it and why !
Interesting new propaganda opportunity to randomly shout things through intercom (need to switch it to permanent on) to get them off my chest at random passers by Grin
Did apologise to checker (shouted) as knew he was doing difficult job.

Beowulfa · 14/04/2021 10:02

I requested a paper form at least 2 weeks before census date- never arrived.

Then requested one 22 March-never arrived.

A week later a census cop knocked, and got a paper form off him; completed and posted the same day.

One follow-up visit so far.

Sounds like they were genuinely unprepared for the number of paper returns.

AnyOldPrion · 14/04/2021 10:13

Easy solution: don’t mess with women. There are lots of us and if you annoy us we can make life difficult!

BlackeyedSusan · 14/04/2021 11:02

they did run out of large print forms.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/04/2021 11:04

I met the census chaser-upper yesterday. the purple on the highvis jacket gives them away. I have had a visit from them and watched her chase up people at least twice more. And that is only when I have happened to be looking out of the window when they wander past the bit of road I can see.

StillFemale · 15/04/2021 23:37

Another ‘you could be fined £1000’ leaflet hand delivered today but no replacement paper form Hmm
I’ve told them what post box it was posted in and when & suggested a complaint to the post office
