Can anyone help me please, I want to make a (probably completely pointless) complaint to a newspaper *[Content warning: concerns child sex abuse]

My local newspaper is reporting that this person has been convicted of downloading a video of a two year old being raped. This person also had searched online for information on raping and killing toddlers.

According to the sheriff's comments, this would usually mean a custodial sentence but ".I have to look at whether other options are available and in this case there are. “I will impose a Community Payback Order because of the exceptional circumstances involving mental health and various other reasons."

At a guess these mental health/exceptional circumstances are related to this person changing pronouns. They have also been subjected to the terrible fate of only being allowed ONE phone and laptop. Hmm

I want to complain to the news organisation about how they refer to this person who is legally male and, as far as I can tell, has no GRC. I'm not sure exactly how to come at it, although I feel they're complicit in gaslighting on an epic scale.

Does anyone have any text they've previously used which they could share with me?

God I feel sick just reading your post OP, I can't go read the article and I don't know what you should say but I will and do offer you my full support and thank you for being brave enough to want to take it on, I'm not strong enough.
Also just bumping for you.

Ravenclawsome · 12/04/2021 12:46

It's the IPSO guidelines that force this ridiculous situation. Maybe better complain to IPSO than the paper as their hands are tied

GoingThruTheMotions · 12/04/2021 12:54

That's horrible. I can't access the article because it's behind a pay wall, but the picture and language make it look like a natal girl.
I'd suggest adding to the it'll never happen thread.
I notice they say teenage. Perhaps the local education authority should be informed?

Palavah · 12/04/2021 12:56

Is the natal sex of the offender really the most worrying aspect of the ruling?

DaddyLangClegs · 12/04/2021 12:58

I would imagine any complaint would fall on deaf ears.

Until there is a law passed to deny males to identify as whatever they will do so, in order that they may be treated more leniently in the courts. This will keep happening.

This is without taking into account the abhorrent nature of their crime. It is awful whatever sex you are or claim to be. Do they not realise that?

One lap top and one phone you say? Is the judge aware how they work and how many images can be accessed with either one?

But this will be what it is like now on Scotland. Some will be protected far more than those who need our protection the most.

andyoldlabour · 12/04/2021 13:03

This is even more confusing. I think the time has come, when news media sources should be compelled to tell the truth, so that the facts are revealed.

"Teenager Denen Anderson was found with horrifying material on her phone including footage of a child aged around two years old being raped by an adult woman."

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 13:04

I think you're right @DaddyLangClegs I would more than likely be wasting my time. I just looked at the IPSO guidelines and I can see that my complaint would fall on deaf ears.

I wonder how it feels to be a reporter who is forced to tell untruths?

The whole thing has made me really angry this morning; I had seen it reported at the time and straight away I could see what was going on, and how it would be reported.

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 13:05

@andyoldlabour I actually had to read that sentence a number of times before the truth clicked. It's absolutely insane hall of mirrors type stuff.

But still, she's only allowed the one laptop so....fair's fair Angry

Depends on if they believe Transwomen are women or not.

Pretty shite if they don't, I imagine. Frustrated and angry.

andyoldlabour · 12/04/2021 13:06

I think this clears it up.

Yeah I guess. I always think that local reporters must be fairly wedded to facts, not being of the tabloid variety, but it doesn't matter does it. They wouldn't be allowed to report it as the facts stand.

What pisses me off is that they've had an investigative report on the home page for months about some drug dealing granny. Why not investigate this issue? Something that could potentially do great harm to society, they could sway public opinion. Except, they can't, can they.

OP posts:
DaddyLangClegs · 12/04/2021 13:16

I do not agree with drug dealing grannies either.

But it is ok to tell the truth about that because it is about a woman.

There is the truth, the whole truth and nothing like the truth these days it would seem.

Their hands are all tied. Like their tongues.

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 13:18

And like ours too.

It's a deeply worrying aspect of the reporting (and recording, and, apparently, the sentencing.

A thread saying 'Tsk, CSA, isn't it appalling; it should be stopped' would have few dissenters but would be pretty pointless...

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 13:29

@Palavah

It's not the ruling I'm concerned with though. That would be a spectacular waste of everyone's time as I'm unlikely to change the law!

It's the reporting that frightens me. If news organisations are now conditioned to lie in their reporting, what else are we being fed that we've no idea about, or what other doors will this open?

One can only wonder what the ruling might have been if the natal sex had been considered.

However, with regards to the reporting, writing it correctly isn’t quite the same as writing it accurately.

And I would prefer facts to be in my paper.

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/04/2021 13:47

It is concerning that this will likely be included in the statistics for women committing sexual offences like this. There are so few women committing this kind of crime that every individual male bodied person who is included in the stats will skew them. And the reason behind the increase will be obscured and impossible to analyse.

transbadger · 12/04/2021 13:47

It is absolutely disgusting that men's crimes are being recorded as women's.

There is no defence of this.

igivein · 12/04/2021 14:23

Might also be worth noting that the report says the downloaded video showed a toddler being raped by a woman.
You have to have a penis to rape someone.

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 14:31

I know @igivein it's so disturbing. It took me a few reads to click, and I was reading it with some context. Those who are not will likely skim read and just assume it's all factual and above board.

OP posts:
Sstrongtn · 12/04/2021 14:42

Yep @igivein so a male teenager watched a video of a male rapist. But both attributed to females.

Yep
DaddyLangClegs · 12/04/2021 14:47

As said. It was written correctly - well, correctly if you are adhering to NS’s wishes.

Just not accurately.

And things that are not accurate could be deemed as not true.

And things that are not true are lies.

But yes. Women are to blame here. Of course they are...

picklemewalnuts · 12/04/2021 14:56

How very dare they. Angry
