An absolutely amazing race, she did so well!

Biscuitsanddoombar · 10/04/2021 17:32

This is just amazing! When I was young, the prevailing view was that women were not strong enough to ride the national

Susie477 · 10/04/2021 17:32

Champion jockey at Cheltenham.
Grand National winner.

Well done that woman!

ImpatiensI · 10/04/2021 17:34

I don't watch it in case a horse get hurt but - CONGRATULATIONS RACHAEL!

According to the radio some famous trainer said a Woman 'has no place in the Grand National' Ha - up yours! Grin

Taswama · 10/04/2021 17:35

Brilliant news.

sashagabadon · 10/04/2021 17:36

Great news! Even better as I backed the Minella Times too Grin

ImpatiensI · 10/04/2021 17:36

Also very glad to hear one commentator say 'this is great for FEMALE sport'.

That's FEMALE sport.

As you were!

WoolOfBat · 10/04/2021 17:36

My daughter was beyond excited, she now wants to take riding lessons 😁

EdinburghFeminist · 10/04/2021 17:44

I backed her too - only £3 each way but just wanted to financially show support. Delighted for her!

Mytholmroyd · 10/04/2021 17:45

Yes! Absolutely brilliant jockey - brought tears to my eyes!

BreatheAndFocus · 10/04/2021 17:46

Yes! Well done, Rachel!

BeetyAxe · 10/04/2021 17:47

Woohoo! We backed her here too, good race.

Lordamighty · 10/04/2021 17:50

I put my money on her too, doubly happy. Just found out my daughter backed her as well.

Brilliant news! Congrats to Rachael!

idontlikealdi · 10/04/2021 17:56

She is a brilliant jockey, I liked the way she didn't feel female / make or even human at the moment😂

rosy71 · 10/04/2021 17:58

Fab - it was really exciting! I also loved the way they were all saying how good it was for female sport.

sunshineandshowers21 · 10/04/2021 17:59

i was crying when she won 🙈 my thirteen year old son had minella times because he wanted to back a female jockey so he’s buzzing!

newrubylane · 10/04/2021 18:01

She was sooooo good. I had a fiver e/w on her x

LostFrog · 10/04/2021 18:01

I had just lectured dh on how I don’t like horse racing and then found myself getting teary when I heard she had won. So much admiration for the woman.

ARTAwa · 10/04/2021 18:05

It is such great news. Im a big fan of grand national, this year the race was sooo unpredictable. I even made a bet on oddsmagnet.com, I bet 1 and have won 25. HAPPY DAY

EdinburghFeminist · 10/04/2021 18:05

I remember watching Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet when I was a kid (it was an old film even then). I just looked it up and it was made in 1944, and this is the first time it’s happened in real life. Amazing.

crosstalk · 10/04/2021 18:10

Superb stuff.

howlsmovingcastle84 · 10/04/2021 18:11

Had £10 to win! Never screamed so much in my life as I did in the last 60 seconds of that race!! My little girl is now playing grand national by riding the arm of the sofa.

Polkadotties · 10/04/2021 18:12

Horse riding is one of the only sports where men and women compete in equal grounds, however racing has always been seen as a male sport. As mentioned above, it was deemed that a woman would never be strong enough to ride a winner of the national.
So bloody proud that she’s won.

Susie477 · 10/04/2021 18:12

I just watched the race again, and focused on Rachael.

She is just an outstanding horsewoman. She set him up perfectly for every fence, saw every stride spot on and rode with complete confidence. She’s a very calm, quiet jockey who makes it look so easy on quality horses in big races. It was like watching Ruby Walsh at his best, and it’s increasingly clear that she is emerging as the best jockey of her generation.
