I think I'll count this as a win, no mentions of stress or depression. Good on Judge Hilary Manley.
www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/inadequate-man-trolled-jess-phillips-20356857

"You are an inadequate man who cannot cope with the reality of having reached your fifties without ever really achieving much, save for acquiring some criminal convictions for violent and abusive behaviour, and a habit of drinking too much alcohol and sitting at your keyboard, venting your frustration at others who in your view have the temerity to put themselves in positions of public service and to hold views with which you do not agree."

Eckersley was sentenced to 28 months in prison as the judge said the sentence should "serve as a reminder to any other self-styled keyboard warriors that the courts will not tolerate this kind of behaviour".

He has since written a letter of apology to the MP but the judge ordered it must not be sent to her unless she wants to read it.

This is why we need more female judges.

Igmum · 10/04/2021 12:42

Excellent. Well done that judge. Now let's see some action taken against the horrors who threaten rape and violence on Twitter

OneFootintheRave · 10/04/2021 12:42

He claimed it was his right under freedom of expression to send thousands of anonymous messages including calling her a "treasonous cunt" - I admire the way the judge summed him up, an inadequate man. Not a "beast" or "monster" - an inadequate man.

The judge has experience of being the subject of sex-based abuse in her own courtroom, of course:

Good.

Helleofabore · 10/04/2021 13:08

A good outcome.

SciFiScream · 10/04/2021 14:26

Inadequate man - what a perfect phrase! Well done Judge and thank you.

MeltsAway · 10/04/2021 14:30

I was SO PLEASED to see this judgement.

I hope it's an object lesson to all you other sad inadequate men who do little more than spout bile via your keyboards.

Jess Phillips rocks!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/04/2021 15:41

Love it!

mooonstone · 10/04/2021 15:49

Whilst it’s a good outcome, I can’t help but feel he’ll be back with a vengeance once he’s out

I mean, he ignored the police warning, he clearly disregards boundaries

ArabellaScott · 10/04/2021 16:01

That's a relief, hopefully, for Jess Phillips. But yes, moonstone, these people are sometimes tenacious.

sashagabadon · 10/04/2021 16:03

Good result

Conniethesensible · 10/04/2021 16:17

Actions, meet consequences!

You cannot spur this kind of hatred, vitriol, and harassment at anyone. MPs are people and should be able to speak their views without this god-awful person sending threatening messages.

Kudos to the judge for telling it straight to him!

RedDogsBeg · 10/04/2021 16:59

Inadequate man, such a perfect and true put down.

Imnobody4 · 10/04/2021 18:26

I particularly liked this -He has since written a letter of apology to the MP but the judge ordered it must not be sent to her unless she wants to read it.
That woman is really on the ball.

Ooooooo that's MUCH more like it!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2021 18:58

Excellent ruling.

GNCQ · 10/04/2021 19:39

Bloody hell this is like a breath of fresh air in a world where online abuse and harassment of women is do commonplace.

Well done that judge.

MargaritaPie · 11/04/2021 00:59

He sat at his keyboard drinking a lot.

Ever notice how almost all crimes that are violent or involve threats have alcohol involved yet this is always overlooked? Why isn't their outrage over the UK's drinking problem given how it makes people behave?

MargaritaPie · 11/04/2021 01:00

*there. Sorry typo.

GreyhoundG1rl · 11/04/2021 01:03

Straight to the heart of the matter, no messing about! Love that woman.

My take on this having worked with offenders is that alcohol is not a cause. It is something inadequate men use to give themselves courage and an excuse. My psychologist mate, when we worked with sex offenders, told me to look out for the drink and porn, not because they caused it, but because this was an indication that a man was gearing up to offend.

Now that doesn't mean that alcohol isn't a factor, but I think it's a symptom and the behaviours would be there regardless.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 08:42

Thank you for letting us know, OP. With all the coverage re Covid 19 and the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, this did not get the attention it should have done.

Sophoclesthefox · 11/04/2021 09:04

Good outcome. Inadequate man is adequately dealt with.

MargaritaPie · 11/04/2021 13:41

Alcohol doesn't cause criminal activity per se, but it certainly facilitates it by reducing inhibitions and impairing the decision-making part of the brain.

The danger combination to watch out for IMO is alcohol + anger.
