Long shot but I don't suppose anyone could PM me the zoom link? I signed up for it this morning, but I think I may have signed up after the link was sent out IYSWIM.

OP posts:

Just been enviously reading the twitter thread OP. Sounds like they had a ball. Hope you managed to attend.

oscarandelliesdad · 11/04/2021 06:56

I've been reading about it on twitter too. Sounds like it was amazing actually...From a BBC article today:
'Alba also seems to share the concern that gender self-identification could undermine women's rights, which sets them at odds with both the SNP leadership and the other independence supporting party at Holyrood, the Scottish Greens.'

AnyOldPrion · 11/04/2021 07:07

Sorry I didn’t see your thread before the event, ItsAll. It was indeed an amazing event. I particularly enjoyed the final section where mature women were the focus of the discussion, but there was amazing emotion throughout.

Times has an article about a survey on trans reforms in Scotland:

The problem with voting for Alba is that you would be voting to break up the UK and turn Scotland into a bankrupt tinpot republic of wokery.
You will not outnumber the SNP, who would then be in government but with no brakes on their anti women policies.
Please vote Conservative instead. You will be supporting women’s rights and keeping Scotland in the UK, which is greatly to our financial benefit. There is no economic argument whatever for independence.

Cabinfever10 · 11/04/2021 10:00

@Babdoc
Alba are a list only party so under the proportional rep system splitting your vote (tory on direct and alba on the list) will f* up the SNPs trans policy much more effectively than a tory vote for both.
Also even if the Scottish government manages to get past the massive legal hurdles to hold another independence vote they would still have to win it and then start the process of separation all of which will take much more than 5 years (something that most SNP won't admit). So comments like yours really don't help, please read up on the vote allocation system in Scotland it is very complicated

Diaryofamadwoman · 11/04/2021 10:06

Does it matter if Tory is unlikely to win for the direct constituency vote? If I wanted to unseat SNP it would have to be Libdem where I am, but they're not getting my vote so Tory is the least worst option. And Alba for list.

Babdoc · 11/04/2021 10:40

Cabinfever10*, I have lived in Scotland for the last forty years and am perfectly well aware of how the voting system works, thank you.
If a majority of pro independence parties (ie SNP plus Alba) obtain seats at Holyrood, Sturgeon will be forced to make good on her pledge to push for yet another expensive and divisive referendum.
If, God forbid, she got one and actually won it, we would lose all the protection and financial backing of the UK. The SNP would have carte blanche in their new woke republic to finish the destruction of women’s rights that they have already started on. And Alba, as a minority party, would not be able to stop them, however GC their credentials.
The only way to defeat the SNP’s threat to both women and the Union is to vote for pro union parties.

Cabinfever10 the Torys are the second party in the Scottish Parliament precisely because of list votes - they didn't win many constituencies. Why would I vote Alba when the only legislation I have at the moment to protect my rights is UK legislation? When anyone with links to Aberdeen will know that the SNP's cry at the last referendum of 'oil will pay for this' is hogwash (may be that is why they ignored the thousands of job loses there).

Tibtom · 11/04/2021 11:20

I got a Scottish Family Party leaflet - it actually had the words 'we oppose transgender ideology' on it.

The Scottish Family Party are not a friend to women, they want to ban abortion.

I didn't think it a good leaflet as you really need to know a bit about the issues they raise to understand why they are an issue. But was the first leaflet I have seen to actually mention it. They are very fringe so I would be surprised if they got single MSP. So it is a shame they aren't using their campaigning platform more effectively to educated on the issue as it matters to them.

Tibtom · 11/04/2021 12:01

I meant transgender ideology and PSHE in schools not arbotion. (Though if they feel strongly about abortion then they should do the same so people could make the choice when deciding to vote.)

So does at least one Alba Party candidate
stumbledin · 12/04/2021 14:35

The Lesbain and Gay news story is a different angle.

Why I posted the link to MSM articles is that they have obviously not bothered with the actual conference but on the basis of (at my guess) a statement by Stonewall are just coming out with the usual slur that everyone GC is transphobic.

Unless and until the MSM stop just following the Stonewall narrative women and women's issues (let alone women's identity) will ever get equal air time.

And of course a good way to not discuss the Alba Party and why they even had a women's conference.

SageHoney · 12/04/2021 14:59

@CatherinaJTV - can't quote your post because it is already a quote, but you say "So does at least one Alba Party candidate" want to ban abortion in the UK. I have not heard of this; can you post a reliable source? Thanks.

He's always stopped short of calling for an outright ban, but it's clear he's not in favour of 'abortion on demand', and is quite up front about that being a belief he holds due to religion.

Google his name and the topic for other pieces.

Sorry for the duff link

CatherinaJTV · 12/04/2021 16:26

exactly, it's Chris McEleny I meant.

SageHoney · 12/04/2021 16:34

Thank you, that's the SNP and Alba out then - if we go by individual politicans' personal opinions - who else?

stumbledin · 14/04/2021 00:16

THE Alba Party says it has reported Holyrood candidates from both the SNP and Scottish Greens to the police over tweets they allege threatened violence against their female members.

Vote Conservative for women's rights. I've heard it all now.
Maduixa · 14/04/2021 09:41

Does anyone know if there is or will be a video and/or transcript available of the women's conference? (I know there were concerns about keeping the attendees' information confidential as there have been threats of violence, but wasn't sure if something might be available anyway.) Thanks!
