An interview with Marwa Elselehdar who was blamed for the blocking of the canal, even though she was hundreds of miles away.

What a surprise.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/04/2021 08:42

Very interesting, thank you! How typical that a woman was blamed for it. What an inspiring young woman.

Lowhum · 04/04/2021 09:15

I really feel for her. I can’t imagine having fake news spread around about something that I had nothing to do with.
She was brave to enter into that sector and it has been used against her Angry

Wow, she is amazing.

. "But when you do what you love, it is not necessary for you to seek the approval of everyone"

superb

Best of luck for (soon to be, hopefully) Captain Marwa Elselehdar. She sounds truly inspiring.

CandyLeBonBon · 04/04/2021 10:04

Who said there was no need for feminism! She sounds fantastic. Good on her! Why are so many people such arseholes? It's so depressing.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/04/2021 10:17

FFS

She sounds fantastic “Though the academy only accepted men at the time, she applied anyway and was granted permission to join after a legal review by Egypt's then-President Hosni Mubarak.”

Good luck for your captain exams Marwa Flowers

picklemewalnuts · 04/04/2021 10:42

I wonder whether the review made annexception for her or whether other women can now apply?

AssassinatedBeauty · 04/04/2021 10:49

I'm glad to have now heard of her, so hopefully that spiteful fake story has backfired and she and other women in her industry will benefit in the long run.

How sad and threatened by women doing their own thing do you have to be to fabricate such an obviously false story!

kateemo · 04/04/2021 16:31

Really glad she didn't just let this "blow over". The work never ends! TBH the press or whomever started the rumours were probably even more exercised over the fact that she is young and beautiful as well.

Thelnebriati · 04/04/2021 16:35

Looks like a case of ''when your malice backfires and you accidentally advance women's rights''.

Never heard of her before but thanks to some misogynist w*nkers on the internet making some stuff up about her, now I do. A win for women’s rights! She sounds brave and amazing. Glad to have read about her.

NiceGerbil · 05/04/2021 04:05

Whatever goes wrong it always turns out to be a woman's fault...

This example is pretty extreme though!

Nappyvalley15 · 05/04/2021 13:52

What a great woman.
The misogyny never ends.

SunsetBeetch · 05/04/2021 16:09

@picklemewalnuts

Women drivers 🙄🤣
Yeah. Hilarious. Hmm
Mummyoflittledragon · 05/04/2021 16:15

Couldn’t be a man. Ffs. Pathetic.

Good on her. Smart cookie.

powershowerforanhour · 05/04/2021 23:26

At the time it happened DH said "Oh apparently it was a woman that crashed it". When I found this story I read the whole thing out to him and he said good for her and was mystified why anyone would make fake shit up like that, bless his naïve cotton socks.

Annoyingly, despite the real story getting aired, probably about twenty times more people will only ever get to hear the rumour and let it lodge in their cognitive-biased memory so any time they hear the Suez Canal mentioned they'll think oh yeah rememember when that stupid woman got the ship stuck.

Still though, glad she went to town to defend her reputation and loads of young women round the world will get to read her inspirational words. I hope she aces her exams.
