I want to get porn off social media.

I've written to my MP about the porn bots on Instagram and the cam girls/only fan girls who use social media to try and increase their audience.

The reason for wanting porn off social media is two fold

1, our schools are in the middle of a sexual harassment crisis and I think the type of online porn that exists nowadays (the type which has normalised choking) has contributed to this.

  1. I am tired of porn addiction being so normalised that it is now seen as ok to be on social media purely to follow you're favourite porn models. I dont want the next generation growing up thinking this is normal.

I'm not an important woman, I don't have a lot of reach but the online harm bill is going through parliament this year so there is potential to put pressure on the government to act.

Does anyone have any ideas of things I could do?

Thanks

It's technically down to the social media platforms themselves if they want to have pornography on or not.

Following, so that I can join in with any suggestions you get.

I'm writing to my mp about sexual exploitation bill, which some unions aren't backing because sex work is work Hmm.

I'm linking it up to porn and the objectification of women. I'm also linking it to porn hub then I'm going to write again in depth about all the different ways porn appears in everyday culture and can be accessed by children..

My MP is woke so I'm not expecting much from them but I'm also sending to their safeguarding minister. Happy to share draft if you're interested. But I cant promise it'll be good.

'sexual exploitation bill, which some unions aren't backing because sex work is work'

For fucking fucks sake.

I really wish there was a way to do something about the prevalence of porn etc on the net. I mean it's just all over the place. Even if not looking links come up etc and that's just not ok.

But what can be done?

Insta is owned by Facebook and they are USA based. A site that big can't have every post looked at. Our govt can't really do anything about a USA company.

One thing I would like is for the major search engines to but return porn if it's not obviously being searched.

I don't know. I think it's insoluble. Sorry.

There are moves being made.

You need to check out what's happening with pornhub. Or rather what started happening at pornhub last year when they removed 80% of their content.

The house of lords has pushed for an online harm bill to go through parliament this year, and the charity cease are pushing for age verification technology to be implemented. This technology exists already but hasn't been implemented. But now people are linking up rape culture in schools to porn I think the government might be forced to act.

My own personal issue is with social media being used as a way for porn models to increase their audience as these sites can be accessed by children. There are also porn bots on insta with links in their bios to take you to porn sights.

I also think porn addiction needs to be broached in mainstream culture because it increasingly seems like a problem.

There is a really long way to go but I've seen things align in the past couple of months and think there is the potential for change.

My idea for coming on here was to see if there were enough people to get a petition going on the hope that would also raise awareness. I think the thread is far too quiet for that.

But im not going to stop writing to my mp...even though I never get replies

I think you should start a petition OP 👍

Sorry appreciate my last post was very high energy, might have been partially down to a gin.

Yeah its just a lot of petitions fall by the wayside don't they? Even really important ones struggle to get signatures if there's not a campaign behind them.

And I'm not a parent, so it's a bit like I pop up say 'Please sign this, porn is on social media. All your kids can see it and it's non contact child abuse', send it to a few people on twitter....is it going get a hundred thousand signatures? And how do you define pornographic content? Because a lot of these models/ porn bots are clever they abide to nudity clause but have links to sites in their profiles were age verification is just a button.

Its interesting though because instagram is supposed to be banning messages from unknown accounts to children's profiles and ticktock banned messaging for under 16s all in the space of the last year. So its obvious to my mind some really murky stuff has been going on there. Or they're acting before online bill comes in.

I do have this thought that in a few years people will look and view the mass of unregulated internet pornography available to all and the amount of children groomed to send nudes via SM as the child abuse scandal of our decade.

I just fear a lot of damage will have been done by that time, and im amazed theres no mainstream media campaign against it especially given what's happening at pornhub...
