Sky News Australia coverage of verbal abuse towards women at demonstration against Holly Lawford Smith

Sky News Australia has been covering protests against Holly Lawford Smith at the University of Melbourne, during which trans rights protestors hurled abuse and threw water over women supporting HLS. The optics = a group of male born individuals, with larger physiques intimidating women.

Watch for the person megaphone pouring out expletives in the middle of this sequence:

Thanks for sharing Rabbit.

It always is a concern when women are confronted in this way. That person with the megaphone shouting directly into the woman’s face was a good example.

What do they expect to achieve with those tactics? It hardly shows their actions in a positive light.

Aggressive men abusing and menacing a woman. Can someone tell us how this is progressive?

FightingTheFoo · 03/04/2021 09:42

Amazed how matter of fact the newscaster was and what a breath of fresh air it was to hear this being discussed in open clear terms.

Also it did not go unnoticed that the big bloke squirting water was targeting a woman of colour.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 03/04/2021 09:42

Ah the right side of history....

And transactivists have the temerity to come on here wringing their hands with ‘but look at these awful ppl who think men can’t be women too.Surely you don’t want to be associated with them’

donquixotedelamancha · 03/04/2021 09:47

Christ, that is really unpleasant. Kudos to the women just standing there and ignoring them- it must be hard no to show either anger or fear when faced with such abuse.

The only positive is that these Genderists really are the best recruiting sergeant for being Gender Critical.

Helleofabore · 03/04/2021 09:48

A question for the aussies, has Sam Armitage said anything on the subject?

Tamingofthehamster · 03/04/2021 09:51

At the end they talk about a couple of U.K. athletes at the last olympics - is that true?

littlbrowndog · 03/04/2021 09:56

The news woman commentator was great. Just said what everyone is thinking

Biscuitsanddoombar · 03/04/2021 10:01

The Mail piece says “on the verge of” not that they did....

Honestly given the furore about sport atm, there’s no way that they wouldn’t have been outed by now as an example of “ha!!!! You couldn’t even tell could you??”

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 03/04/2021 10:04

yup, I thought the woman news anchor was outstanding

look at those twerpish men bellowing at women through megaphones

transactivism is a misogynist's wet dream innit?

FightingTheFoo · 03/04/2021 10:05

There are 400 events in the Olympics, some quite random, so it's quite possible trans women have already competed in women's events and no one is aware except people who compete competitively in that specific event.

It's very telling the trans athletes' names were not revealed in the Mail piece. It means there's no way to follow up and find out whether they were put forward.

FightingTheFoo · 03/04/2021 10:10

For example there are 12 or so members on the GB women's handball team. There is only one current pic of the current squad available. None from Rio that I can find. You can look at the list of names but you wouldn't know if any of those female names were natal males unless you were on the team would you?

Beamur · 03/04/2021 10:14

I think the comment that bothers me in that article is the insinuation that the trans athletes would deliberately miss a medal position in order to avoid any personal flak. That's hardly a good attitude for their team or country.

SunsetBeetch · 03/04/2021 10:15

The comments under that YouTube video! The MGTOW and right wing types are LOVING this.

FightingTheFoo · 03/04/2021 10:16

Same with the women's archery team. I can't find pics of the 2016 squad. The names are meaningless.

Isn't deliberately throwing a match/race/game also unlawful in most sports?

I could point out the insalubrious histories of many of those who publicly and vociferously support the TRA movement (cough rhymes with ballenor) but I'd rather my comment wasn't deleted.

What's your point again?

SunsetBeetch · 03/04/2021 11:06

That men who don't likewomen are enjoying seeing them being attacked Fighting

loveyouradvice · 03/04/2021 11:48

Wbat a brilliant clip - DO DO DO watch.... Sky Australia female anchor being totally gender critical and treating it as a normal approach! So refreshing.... wow!!

Good on Sport as well as protest.

Has made my day! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 03/04/2021 12:09

It really is a relief to see this sort of behaviour reported on and dissected. We know it's been happening for years online, and in person, and a blind eye has been turned. Sunlight.

Yes I thought the same!

ThePankhurstConnection · 03/04/2021 15:54

Thanks for posting this. The anchorwoman was great, no pussy-footing around like you get on the news here. Refreshing to see.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/04/2021 06:53

The coverage is really refreshing.

I’m a big fan of say what you see- I see a big burly fella throwing water over a woman just standing there, and another person shouting and swearing about having women removed from a public place because of their opinions. This is being done in the name of progress.

So progress requires that women are harassed and silenced. I think we knew that.

IDontOnlyLikeJazzFunk · 04/04/2021 09:32

Yes that anchor lady is a star - her face speaks a thousand words.

I hadn’t realised initially what the protests were about - they do rather back up Holly’s point - I wouldn’t want to be in an enclosed space with some of those aggressive people.

If I happened to be wearing the ‘wrong sort’ of t shirt and they got upset Confused
