NICE guidelines

I came on here today expecting to see a discussion about the news about the NICE guidelines showing limited evidence for puberty blockers in teens and cross sex hormones in adults - highlighting the poor quality of evidence. This evidence will be used to inform Hilary Cass' review if GIDs.

Recently I have been reflecting on the parallels between some of behaviours of some CYP who identify as trans and others with addictions. Many CYP with eating disorders hate and resent anyone or anything that gets in the way of them and their obsession. I see the same with CYP who see parents, professionals and NHS systems threatening their obsession.

It is so pernicious that professionals aren't able to work holistically. I really hope the NICE findings and the Cass review will enable better exploratory work to be undertaken.

I know that TRAs will jump in and scream gatekeeping and denial of services......if that is you reading this, and you have a violent reaction to suggestions that we practice evidenced based medicine and full exploration of what is going on for CYP who are distressed, try and reflect on why this might be!
