Has anyone listened to the Guilty Feminist podcast where DFW takes with EI? I’m only a little bit of the way through and he’s so... humourless. She is tying herself in knots and I find him incredibly self righteous.

The part that made me feel so sad though, was when she was talking about reproduction. She stumbled a bit and then said, unless someone has two biological fathers, which is possible.

That’s not possible is it? I found myself questioning myself... it’s not, no? While I’ve been typing I realised she meant a biological man and a woman who transitions to be a man, so one bio man and one woman who identifies as a man making two biological fathers?

I think the words 'meant' and 'meaning' are entirely misplaced re anyone saying a child can have 'two biological fathers'.

justchecking1 · 31/03/2021 18:50

No, biologically you cannot have 2 fathers.

Sociologically speaking, it appears anything goes

SmokedDuck · 31/03/2021 18:57

If you change the meaning of father, or biological, it's ok.

I stopped listening to DFW when she said TWAW. So annoying!

EsmesRedPetticoat · 31/03/2021 22:44

Didn’t the Freddy McConnell case rule in the end that no matter how they identify, the person who gives birth can only be a mother, not a father?

StocksandScares · 31/03/2021 22:55

You couldn't pay me to listen to The Guilty Feminist

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 31/03/2021 23:03

DFW is very funny and very talented. She’s talked openly about her own struggles with fertility, so this is very sad. I stopped listening to The Guilty Feminist when it began with the TWAW - I’ve wondered if, having been brought up in a male -dominated cult, her conditioned response is to defer to men.

This is sadly ironic.

AlohaMolly · 31/03/2021 23:04

I really enjoyed the guilty feminist until very recently when it started to feel like she was trying to hard to please everyone.

Incidentally, I had a post deleted for saying that I really don’t like the ideology that states a child can have two biological fathers.

I don't like any ideologies based on anti scientific untruths.

It should be entirely uncontroversial to state that children have one - no more, no less - biological father.

EdgeOfACoin · 01/04/2021 07:59

The Freddy McConnell case made it clear that the person who produced the egg and gave birth must be listed as 'mother' on the birth certificate. This seemed to be reinforced by the House of Lords recently, which insisted on using the words 'mother' and 'mother-to-be' in a Bill regarding pregnancy and maternity leave.

It stands to reason that the person who produced the sperm is legally considered the biological father, regardless of gender identity.

Legally, therefore, no it's not possible to have two biological fathers or two biological mothers in this country.

(Not getting into debates about surrogacy, donor conception and adoption, which might have slightly different rules about who goes where on a birth certificate.)

Same.
Sophoclesthefox · 01/04/2021 08:34

I also gave up on the guilty feminist, even though I do find DFW really funny. I just couldn’t play along with hearing male voices on a feminist podcast telling me my feminism is wrong.

Strangely, I do wonder if DFW is quite as TWAW as it might appear. She did a corporate gig at my work, back when we had such things pre covid, the theme was Inclusion, and some of the things she said were definitely straying from the party line. I wonder if she looked at the company and imagined that idenitity politics wouldn’t play well given our sector and reputation?

AlohaMolly · 01/04/2021 10:08

That’s interesting @Sophoclesthefox. I get the impression she’s a very intelligent woman and the earlier episodes og TGF blew me away consistently, but she’s been quite open throughout the pandemic of her deep desire for audience attention do I wonder if she is fearful of being cancelled.

StocksandScares · 01/04/2021 10:29

TGF's audience is/ was middle-aged women.

In my experience, most middle aged feminists are gender critical.

Most of the TWAW women I know are young (teenage/ early-mid 20s). These kind of women are unlikely to be interested in TGF either as there's far better podcasts aimed at this market.

TGF has alienated her audience basically.

Me too! And I bought several of her books for gifts!!!
Shedbuilder · 01/04/2021 10:47

I stopped listening to her long before that. She's pretends to centre women but her focus is on men, like all the liberal feminist-lite people. She's made a reputation and living out of misrepresenting feminism and selling it down the river.

I think it's great that the real EI, humourless, self-righteous, is out there for everyone to see.

CheeryTreeBlossom · 01/04/2021 11:19

I stopped listening because it became a bit too "guilty" focused and not enough "feminist".
I'm probably target audience as a millennial but found it grating how everything was "problematic".

Last straw was when she was apologising for enjoying exercise and how it made her feel good, because obviously caring about your health and appearance is both vain and fatphobic and so you are therefore a a bad feminist/person Confused

I can feel guilty about a lot of things but draw the line at a Pilates class.

SunsetBeetch · 01/04/2021 16:25

Still, at least she isn't Sofie Hagan...yeesh

Beamur · 01/04/2021 16:54

I've seen the stage show but not listened to the podcast. I almost like DFW but she's too lib fem for me.

IDanielRadcliffe · 01/04/2021 19:37

I think TGF is popular with 20s/30s women so she does fear being cancelled. The audience is quite woke and she gets pushback on other stuff and sounds quite drained by it so I imagine she definitely doesn’t want that onslaught.
