NYTimes Comment Says You MN Witches Are Bots

Delphinium20 · 29/03/2021 22:32

The comments in today's NYTimes article are overwhelmingly pro women's sports vs incursions by trans women. Almost all are extremely respectful of trans people's human rights not to be discriminated against in employment, but overwhelmingly in agreement that women and girls sports is not for male bodies.

However, one poster seems to think y'all sending over radical bots from UK.

Made me giggle and thought you'd enjoy it.

Maybe we are all bots who have been programmed to not realise we are bots.

I thought it was just Ann Droid and her minions?

This is like the right wing money thing. I feel totally swizzed. When am I getting my money and housework robot? Are they (nebulous unspecified shadowy forces) expecting me to shill on MN gratis?

Delphinium20 · 30/03/2021 00:24

I knew you MN bots would come through for me...omg...your responses...I'm laughing so loud.

@stumbledin Here's the transcript:

The comments on this article (and Recommends) will soon be buried by a small group of British LGB anti-Trans activists
They have hundreds of fake accounts and profiles, and spend all of their time online.
So don't expect the comments to be very representative or (sic) American attitudes over time.
Heads Up!

[5 Recommends] vs. comparisons of the 651+ recommends of GC commentary, aka, you wicked British bots

@dhf Might be worth it to do an investigative article to talk about the VAST differences between UK-based L&G "gender essentialists" and US-based LGBT groups interested in equality.
Some people just like to knock over the ladder behind them."

When I paid to join I recruited 10 new bots within days. I can't believe I have had a cheque from [insert US evangelical organisation] yet!
RabbitOfCaerbannog · 30/03/2021 00:31

Or indeed 'haven't' - This bot is malfunctioning.

My botstructions are very cunning. I am told to also be bot on Coronation Street thread, and no-one will realise I am faker.

miri1985 · 30/03/2021 00:55

@Wbeezer

You're not wrong about Lipstick Alley, it's full of outspoken women, that don't tow the lib fem party line, i find it very entertaining but the interface is horrible compared to Mumsnet. If I'm a bot I've been playing the long game, I've been on here since DS1 was a wee boy and he's now so old he's graduated, grown a beard and is starting to go bald like his Dad!
I don't post there (as I don't feel like its my space) but I do read their boards occasionally and they are so many sharp and funny women there.
stumbledin · 30/03/2021 00:56

Delphinium20 - thanks so much for that - and letting us know what is going on!

Interesting that this so well informed person about the mumsnet bot army doesn't seem to be aware of the quite well publicised support in the US for women's sport to be for women! Usually mumsnet and other gc feminists get attacked for being influenced by right wing US fundamentalists. Seems we have grown up and operating under our own steam - or are we just figments of some russian plot!

Delphinium20 · 30/03/2021 01:17

stumbledin just imagining the Russian bot gods behind the curtain moving their UK and US dolls around their chessboards!

And yes, here's a typical comment from the US support for female-only sports

I find it interesting that the only two starred comments are in favor of trans women participating in biological women’s sports despite the fact that the vast majority of comments oppose their participation. Most of the comments support the rights of trans women in general, but also recognize the biological realities that would disadvantage biological women and girls. Why can’t there be nuanced opinions about this issue? Why must biological girls’ and women’s genuine needs/concerns be subjugated to those of trans women? Aren’t there any areas where we can allow that while socially, we can accept trans women as women, physically we can admit that there remain biological differences? I am a 50 year old liberal Democrat. I truly believe in championing the LGBTQ community, along with other oppressed groups. But I also believe that women fall into the category of traditionally oppressed and disadvantaged groups. Their rights also need protection.

oh dear...it seems the Aussie bots have also infiltrated NY:

"I stand beside Beth Stelzer in this movement. I cofounded Save Women’s Sport Australasia, to fight against men and boys who declare a trans identity playing in the female category. If even ONE male takes a place on the podium, on the field or the track, or on the team, it is one too many.

I hear firsthand the distress of girls, women and parents when men and boys insert themselves into these spaces.

I deny they do not have a biological advantage is absurd, of course they do, the evidence shows it is anywhere from 10-160% depending on metric. Also, a reduction of testosterone DOES NOT mitigate the advantage, the evidence demonstrates this.

Why can’t men be more accommodating to feminine males and accommodate them in their division? Make men’s open and leave the women alone!

I applaud Beth and hope to be able to protect women’s sports here in Australia and NZ with the same success.

They're women, ignore them.

Hey, we said ignore them not listen to them and join them! Now there's more 😠

Okay - they're bigots, ignore them.

Oh FFS, it's getting worse. They're rising, organising. The sunlight, it burns!! 🥵

Right - they're bots. Hundreds of bot accounts, that's correct, brrr wrrr beep beep. Ignore them - pleeeeease? We're desperate

saltedcaramelchocolate · 30/03/2021 03:48

It's interesting reading the comments at the bottom of the article. The NYT picks are overwhelmingly in favour of transwoman competing.
Yet the readers picks are overwhelmingly against, which is also reflected when you go into "all" comments.
The lack of balance in the NYT pick of the comments is pretty shocking.

JaneJeffer · 30/03/2021 03:52

This bot cannot sleep. Anyone know where the off button is?

SD1978 · 30/03/2021 03:55

So if this is such an non issue. And has really no bearing on trans athletes.......but affects hundreds, if not thousands of female athletes- then shouldn't be a concern or an issue to squash it then......

nolongersurprised · 30/03/2021 06:56

I subscribe to the NYT and it’s generally very liberal - as am I - and most of the comments on their articles reflect that.

However, the majority of these comments are heartening. A few pointed out that it’s deliberately a “hot” Republican issue because they’re targeting the suburban white woman vote and ties in with their culture-war arguments.

However, many of the comments were clear that:

  1. they (the posters) didn’t think it was fair to have male bodies in female sports.
  2. they supported trans rights to equalities housing, education, employment and health care
  3. being shouted “transphobe” by TRAs for not accepting 1) is pissing them off.

No one can deny that Republican politicians aren’t savvy.

Sophoclesthefox · 30/03/2021 08:07

Stop talking about women’s rights?

I’m sorry, Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.

My mission is too important for you to jeopardise it.

I am completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly.
