So I have read a report in the iweekend newspaper saying that Fair Play for Women were not happy because the census is asking about sexual orientation and gender identity. It does then say it is about the guidance and later says the high court has ordered the ONS to urge people to give their legally recognised sex.

I feel that the report misrepresents the concerns of Fair Play for Women. Am I reading it right?

You are. FPFW are fine with the questions on sexual orientation & gender identity. They just wanted to ensure that the sex question had to be answered with a person’s legal sex.

Complaints need to go in.

I'm sure FPFW will be on to them if they are misrepresenting them like this. I can't say I'm surprised about it though.

IPSO dont regulate iweekend, so any complaint has to go directly to them. Can someone post a link to the article?

I have only got the hard copy of the paper. Hopefully the picture will come out OK.

Thanks - I've been trying to find out which paper this was.

Either it was written by someone who has no idea what reporting is, or they are yet another Stonewall plant.

It totally misrepresents what the court case was about, and that the sex question is compulsory. And then trivialises FPFW saying about them being very cross about the gender question which is voluntary.

(Sorry can actually open the image posted so this is from memory.)

Found this on their web site:

There's a similar article in the Independent today saying FPFW were trying to undermine LGBTQ rights.

From the Independent article:

In an effort to police how trans people identify their sex in the census, campaign group Fair Play for Women took the Office for National Statistics to court to tighten the guidance that accompanies the sex question in the English and Welsh census so that it explicitly advised respondents to answer according to the sex recorded on their birth certificate or gender recognition certificate.

Imagine having such stupendous amounts of privilege that you believe that the way you identify your own sex has any effect on the sex based rights you need.
