#Lesbian Metoo: A space for lesbians to speak about their experiences of sexual violence

#MeToo has been very successful in exposing the prevalence of male sexual violence against women and girls. But the experiences of lesbians have been missing from these stories.

Lesbians are females who are same-sex attracted. This website exists to give a space for lesbians to speak up. This website aims to collect direct lesbian experiences of male sexual violence and harassment against lesbians. This includes sexual violence and harassment by males who identify or call themselves lesbians or women (transwomen).

Thanks for posting about this site. It's important that lesbians can talk about their experiences without it being overshadowed by other women's experiences of male violence.

Thanks for sharing OP. Is this your campaign or are you just promoting it?

Thanks for sharing, OP

Does anyone know who is behind this site? There are individuals out there who would very much enjoy reading about sexual violence against lesbians.

I very much hope this site is legitimate as it is important this is heard.

Sorry. Forgot to mention that the original was posted by Angela C Wild on another site and I asked her permission to post it here.

I think it's a great idea and thought it might be useful to some Mumsnetters.

I wouldn't feel at ALL safe posting anything on that website. There is nothing about who is running it. No rules of engagement and no definition of "lesbian" i.e to mean adult human female attracted to other adult human females.

joystir59 · 19/03/2021 15:50

And I don't see why we lesbians need to record their experiences of male violence separately from those of other women.

SapphosRock · 19/03/2021 21:39

I'm a bit confused by this as I couldn't see an 'About' section and so it's not clear what the purpose of collecting the testimonies is for. Is it just so they exist online?

I've got a few stories to tell but writing them down would probably ruin my Friday night...

Ummm... Did you look at the website?

This is from the front page:

Lesbians are females who are same-sex attracted.

This includes sexual violence and harassement by males who identify or call themselves lesbians or women (transwomen).

Whatever happened to you, whoever did it, if you are a female attracted to other females, wherever you are in the world, wherever you come from, we want to hear from you.

Seems like it might be so that the stories exist online.

There is a site where gender critical staff and students at universities can share their stories of being harassed or intimidated.
There is a site for women for post stories about how their access to single sex spaces are impacted by the inclusion of males.
So I'm assuming this website is in a similar manner to capture the experiences of lesbians. It might be worth sending an email to whoever is running the website to see if they sound legit?

I can understand you all being worried about posting such personal stories.

This is a little bit about Angela from the FiLiA website

Some lesbians will know they are attacked because they are lesbian. Sometimes it will be because they are women. Not always clear but important to record especially where being lesbian is the issue.

PandorasMailbox · 21/03/2021 11:37

I think all the cotton ceiling rhetoric has made things worse.
