Safe places for GC to chat?

Iidentifyasacat · 19/03/2021 09:19

Is there anywhere that is a safe place for GC to chat? Maybe a discord server or something?

Ovarit.

Caaarrrl · 19/03/2021 09:27

Mums.chat. I don't think this thread will last long.

Thanks. Why won't it last long? I don't see any guidelines it breaks or are we not allowed to discuss safe options?

We're not allowed to discuss anything that the monitors on twitter don't want us to.

Sorry, the what?

The monitors on twitter. People who follow what is said on here and report anything they don't like. MN would rather delete than deal with the hassle.

Iidentifyasacat · 19/03/2021 09:40

Oh, thanks for explaining. So how do we know what is allowed and what isn't even if it doesn't break any of their guidelines Confused

Ovarit and Spinster.

DaisiesandButtercups · 19/03/2021 09:42

We never know for sure what is acceptable, but by spending a lot of time here some get a feel for it.

I was surprised by the deletion of your earlier thread I must admit.

Some one will be watching and report this thread so that others cannot share safe places. #nodebate
Helleofabore · 19/03/2021 09:42

There are people who seem to live to report posts and threads for moderation. Some of these are outspoken about their successes on twitter where they report to their followers their latest escapades. These are also known as the monitors.

We find out when posts are deleted and you end up banned!

Trial and error. We eventually spot the patterns. We know certain words or phrases usually provoke immediate deletions, although it may not be obvious that they break any written guideline, but we can't directly state what they are. You'll may find some insight in the "rambles" thread and its predecessors.

Me too! Hence why I posted asking this question. I'm still confused by their reply so worry anything I write here will end up leading to me being banned Sad

I started a thread about pink news misgendering someone in an article about their pronouns (but I may have been wrong about that). It was deleted.

Iidentifyasacat · 19/03/2021 09:46

I'll check out the rambles thread, thank you!

"These are also known as the monitors."

In polite circles. There are other, more apt words for them that are freely used elsewhere Smile

Confused did you ever find out why it was deleted?

Yes Tanith. Quite.

Deletions do not directly lead to bans. As explained in the guidelines, there is a "three strikes" rule, and a deletion is usually not a strike. You will get an e-mail informing you if there is a "strike".

But you may want to be cautious in case there's a delayed mail.

FWIW, I've noticed about 10 deletions of my messages and had 1 strike. And I've usually figured out what I did wrong, and I've learned. But I'm not a proper polemicist unlike some other users here - it hurts some of the heartfelt writing I've seen nuked.

StealthPolarBear · 19/03/2021 09:50

Not in the spirit apparently

Iidentifyasacat · 19/03/2021 09:50

Oh right okay. Thanks @NecessaryScene1 I just assumed a deletion would count as a strike.

OP posts:
Bordois · 19/03/2021 09:55

Oh biscuits are delete worthy on here, but not elsewhere on MN
