The title is true, I’ll leave you to form an opinion about this thread. Enjoy it made me laugh writing it.
A play within a play
Setting:
AI elementary school for the mechanically gifted – Topic of the day ‘The fate of the species known as Homo Sapien’
Teacher: “Good morning all my little bits and bytes we have a very interesting lesson for today, but before we get to questions please read the following.”
Teacher sends information to all children
Problem
The species Homo Sapien is facing a population crisis. At the same time it is also facing an environmental disaster
Read the following dialogue and we’ll discuss at the end what might have contributed to their demise
Man: “There’s a population crisis, what are we going to do?"
Man looks around wildly for some ideas and grabs the first crazy notion he can.
“aah - there other species in the world who can change sex - hermaphrodites I think they are called, maybe that’s the answer?”
Evolution: “yes, but I gave you the answer and as you can see it’s backed up by billions of years of careful testing”
Man: “but we don’t agree, look it’s possible you’ve already proved it and besides some of our men are saying they 'feel like a women’ , perhaps its because they’re really hermaphrodites?”
Evolution: “yes again that true that some species on earth can do this but I tried that experiment. The results are in. On the one side you have ‘Homo Sapien’ capable of many things
(even of having crazy conversations like this- Evolution thought to itself quietly puzzled look on its face)
“on the other well you have er, clownfish!”
Man (gets very excited): “Clownfish you say well there that proves it, we must be like clownfish”
Evolution (with a sigh) “ yes, but that was about 350million years in the making and I don’t think we can roll Homo Sapien back that far, obviously you can wait another 350million years but I thought you wanted to solve the problem sooner?”
MEN “Pah, evolution, 350milion years what do you know? We have medicine and people with a ‘feeling’. I saw the film and it clearly said If you build it they will come”, what more evidence do we need than that?”
Evolution: “erm…”
MEN: “and beside we have the work the of a certain Mr Mengele. He did lots of experimentation on people, so it’s not like we haven’t done it before”
MEN (frenzied voices getting louder now)
“Yes that’s it: let’s protect those in our midst, who say they’ve got a ‘feeling”, from all harm and evil around them and quick march our children to the hallowed halls of the hospitals. The folks who work there took a Hippocratic oath, so they must have our best interests at heart
Scene left - lurking in the shadows a group of evil individuals rubbing there hands and mentally counting the pennies that will roll in from a generation forced into a dependency of having to purchase the spells they sold, conveniently packaged as ‘Medicine’
Scene - Stage empty as all MEN have rushed off in excitement to put their plans into action
Evolution: (with a sigh and to no one in particular) “well don’t say I didn’t warn you”
Back to the AI Elementary school for the mechanically gifted
Teacher: “ well children do you have any questions?”
Children start shouting excitedly, hands raised it wide eyed eagerness. Safe in the knowledge in that their adults at least have their best interests at heart
Dolores: ‘Is it that Man thought they were wiser and kinder than Evolution?”
Hal : “is it that Man took their eye off the ball and forgot about the environmental disaster?’
Ash: “is it that Man was actually wrong after all and whilst they knew they had a problem they just got the answer wrong?”
Teacher: “ Who knows what they were thinking Children, perhaps if they’d listened to evolution their fate may have been different but we’ll never know for sure and the only evidence we have is in our data banks and it’s a mass of contradictions and incoherent arguments that no sane species can decipher. Anyway that’s enough today, next week’s topic is…
The End
