@AdHominemNonSequitur

Not all police officers
Ok. Are you NAMALT as well?
twelly · 16/03/2021 17:17

The police is not full of thugs, most men and women in the police are honest, trustworthy and decent

NiceGerbil · 16/03/2021 22:14

I live in the met area.

They have a terrible record.

And it's not just about to the ones who have done the sort of stuff on this thread.

Time and time again there have been institutional failings around sex offences.

And there's been loads of issues with other things as well- cover ups, lying, accepting bribes etc.

That wouldn't be possible if there weren't structural problems, attitudes running through the majority of officers etc.

notacooldad · 16/03/2021 23:17

Why does his name seem familiar? Something in my brain has recognised him. Give me time, it'll come.
That name definitely rings a bell

Probably because he has the same name as a new Zealander professional bowler?

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 16/03/2021 23:34

Does anyone have the screenshots of interactions with WYP on Twitter to hand? All I can think of for the name being that Ben Lister, is that he was named on one of them?

Tibtom · 17/03/2021 09:36

Probably because he has the same name as a new Zealander professional bowler?

Definitely not that! I presume bowler refers to cricket rather than bowls?

notacooldad · 17/03/2021 09:41

Yeah , cricketer
I thought the same as others, that the name was familiar. I asked my lad if the name meant anything to him and he said ' oh, yeah, the NZ bowler's and I knew that's where I had heard that name before.

It was just a suggestion.

The one in this case may have been involved with other stuff before in his role.

Tibtom · 17/03/2021 09:45

I guess if you follow cricket.... but I was sure there was some more direct link.

TheQueef · 17/03/2021 09:47

Has anyone seen the meme shared by the cordon officer mentioned upthread?
It's in todays mail.
Bad taste doesn't begin to cover it.

TheQueef · 17/03/2021 09:49

This is the image from the mail.

notacooldad · 17/03/2021 09:54

I don't follow but you know how you hear names on the news or radio without really paying attention. That's how it was familiar.
It will be interesting to see if there is a link to other things seeing that a few seem to know his name from something else.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/03/2021 10:00

I'm reminded of this case.

Imnobody4 · 17/03/2021 10:01

Having thought a bit more (overnight !), I would feel encouraged if we had more of these cases ( the meme one )being severely disciplined. It is encouraging that he was reported by other officers. That's what we need to see - decent police officers being proactive and disciplinary panels treating with zero tolerance. That is what will show the system is working, paradoxically the more we see, the more I can trust them.
I don't know what the training is like but it should be drummed into them that this kind of conduct will lead to dismissal.

I struggle to imagine why they think pressing send on shit is appropriate given their job? The cop that went online and watched porn with a dead 14yo boy in the house presumably was sexually stimulated by this scenario. It's just horrific.

Police in the UK police by consent. We need thousands more and for them to all be a lot better at the job. Confidence in the police has been shaky for years and stuff like this needs to be called out by other coppers or it will all go to ratshit.

ArtemisiaGentle · 17/03/2021 11:27

😶 sigh

nitsandwormsdodger · 17/03/2021 12:34

A teacher has been arrested near me

My friends dad ( a Doctor) was struck off for sexual assault

A carpenter got 3 years for causing death by dangerous ( drunk ) driving

I have worked in the past for police for 10 years and worked in a station with 1000 officers they are generally gezzer types all the ones I knew were nice and woke never heard a racist or sexist word from them in all that time ( I was part time 😀)

Im just here to say there's bad apples every profession, there are lessons to be learnt but lay off the police bashing

TheQueef · 17/03/2021 12:42

Have you ever had to have dealings regarding sex crimes Nits?
I sincerely hope you've not needed the police btw, many who've had to report a sex crime have the same experience.
It's unfair to say lay off police bashing when the behaviour clearly needs scrutiny.
Shutting people up with namalt...etc is part of the problem.

Love51 · 17/03/2021 12:45

I was going to try to see how many make police officers commit violent crime compared to men in general.
I googled what proportion of me commit violent crimes and go this

NiceGerbil · 17/03/2021 17:59

It's loads it was in the news a year or 2 back.

NiceGerbil · 17/03/2021 17:59

I mean not proportionately but a high number in general.

Newname12 · 17/03/2021 18:17

Possibly the increased reports of officers in the media etc like this is because the culture is changing, they are being reported, investigated, arrested and charged, not just discreetly sacked or moved to a desk job...?

I work alongside the police and am suprised at how little shit they do take. They have no problem reporting other officers, or investigating reports from the public. It may just the ethos of my local station though, there seems to be a good leadership team.

Then again I have worked on building sites and in professional kitchens before, compared to the racism, sexism and blatant harrassment coming under “banter”, give me a police officer any day. I still find it odd that when I speak in a meeting people shut up and give me their full attention.

Hopefully things are changing. If we want the bad apples pulled out and called to account we will see more reports like this.

NiceGerbil · 17/03/2021 18:24

The idea of putting plainclothes into pubs and nightclubs is nothing to do with women. Probably to do with drugs.

MaudTheInvincible · 24/03/2021 13:51

Figures obtainedd^ under the Freedom of Information Act in 2019 show that police officers are seven times more likely than doctors or teachers to be dismissed for sexual misconduct. Now this is, admittedly, a small percentage of the service — but this is only the visible part. Police action lawyerss^ will tell you that vulnerable victims rarely follow through on a complaint against a police officer, and rarer still that such complaints are held up by the courts

Tell that to the countless thousands of working class children groomed and raped while the police knowingly looked the other way.
ArabellaScott · 25/03/2021 08:46

There's a thread in here in the past few days from a woman who was trying to report her boss in the police for threats and abuse and he got moved into the dept that deals with complaints.

And there was a horrendous report into dv among police, cover ups, abusing the women who reported it etc a year or two ago

It's not just that abusers look for positions of power it's also that the standards expected of those in positions of trust and power need to be that much higher than for the man in the street for want of a better phrase
