Stonewall at it again. Domestic Violence Bill

Hope this isn't repetition. I had a look but couldn't see it another thread.

On the Sex Matters website. Stonewall trying to make the Domestic Violence bill gender neutral.

I thought fair enough. Domestic Violence can be committed by both sexes towards both sexes, but it looks like it is more about making misogyny gender neutral and linked in with the hate crime stuff that is currently going on. Maybe in anticipation of misogyny being added as a hate crime in the UK, where it failed to happen in Scotland?

More obfuscation by stealth. I think there are some actions suggested.

Yes, CaveMum just listening. Not sure when to post, but will wait and see how the amendments progress. At the minute it's housing and talking about delays with consultations and want assurances (this is to do with Scotland having more protections) that this wont be kicked into the long grass (this is to do with taking over the tenancy so that perpetrator is removed but must carry on with the finances whilst being removed. I have a feeling this was never enacted because of an argument about Human Rights and right to home

It didn't fail in Scotland, it was decided that it deserved being a seperate bill. its a major change in law so needs proper condideration. As an example, with equality legislation, should it include misandry? Engalnd and Wales are nowhere near a misogyny bill which is a great shame because it would be a huge step in teaching men better behaviours towards women and attidtudes to silent witnessing misogyny .
highame · 15/03/2021 15:15

Misogyny has been committed against women for centuries, better consideration is mind numbingly stupid. They know that misogyny is so widespread that the police wouldn't be able to cope with the numbers. Women under report - men overreport

highame · 15/03/2021 15:20

GP's not to charge for evidence for DV victims, it is discretion any number of people can be approached for evidence BMA recommended a charge should not be levied on those needing evidence. Non binding recommendation so 66c no person may charge for production of evidence. This is great news

highame · 15/03/2021 15:21

I meant to add that that is in order to access legal aid

MForstater · 15/03/2021 15:21

Thanks for posting

Please do keep tweeting about this (using #DARVOamendment87B).... it probably wont get debated till late (like Midnight!).

highame · 15/03/2021 15:40

Wont be awake then Grin but hopefully I'll wake up in the morning and find out what happened. The debate is interesting

highame · 15/03/2021 15:44

Now onto Immigration status and not using details in order to have consequences of information from victims to police then on to immigration office. Firewall is needed. Data sharing is inconsistent among police forces - well that's unusual isn't it who'd a thought

highame · 15/03/2021 15:45

Home Office unwittingly supporting perpetrators - what a very good point

LizzieSiddal · 15/03/2021 16:07

I'm at work so can't follow this- thanks to those who are posting.

highame · 15/03/2021 17:07

A long discussion has been going on about secure immigration status. Vulnerability is clear as they are unable to have recourse to public funds. This is Lord Hunt again - he's so good on women's issues and control of abusers able to use secure status

highame · 15/03/2021 17:07

insecure status sorry

LitCrit · 16/03/2021 13:03

Does anyone know the upshot?

ArabellaScott · 16/03/2021 22:47

Postponed, i think, from the Sex Matters Twitter:

'The Lords are not going to get to discuss the Dodgy Amendment Reversing Victim and Offender tonight

#DARVOAmendment87

Probably Wednesday'

UppityPuppity · 17/03/2021 10:02

Hi, can somebody give me a quick summary of what is going on with this and where it is in parliament so I can write to my MP.

Is this the Stella Creasy nonsense sex AND gender bit - Trojan horse to include gender into law and will make it more difficult for women to assert our rights as we will be will be classed as commiting misogyny based on gender - against males - you couldn’t make this shit up!

DV and IS a gendered crime - this will remove all statistics needed to support women.

Thanks.

UppityPuppity · 17/03/2021 10:06

Also - which bit - or is it in both parts -making misogyny a hate crime and making DV gender neutral erasing women where there is minimal references to women.

If you can’t name it, you can’t see it then you can’t stop it.

WhereAreWeNow · 17/03/2021 10:16

Why on earth is Stella Creasy peddling this crap? She strikes me as an intelligent woman so I find it hard to believe that she genuinely can't see the problem with this amendment, with Stonewall, or with TWAW. Is it that she knows it's bullshit but thinks there's political capital in playing along?

A quick look at Stonewall's tactics used to 'encourage' organisations / individuals to comply with their demands as evidenced in the Allison Bailey case might suggest some reasons?
