Thanks for the heads up Cunty

@Cwenthryth

twitter.com/sistersuncut/status/1370847160770699266?s=21 This is what Sisters Uncut were doing. They turned it into an anti-police protest. They were not there to hold vigil for Sarah. In fact their actions and speeches, according to a journalist present, may indeed potentially jeopardise bringing her alleged killer to justice, there is a reason the media is glossing over what the women in the bandstand were actually saying.

Their feed this morning is all about protesting the police tomorrow. Not about Sarah at all.

Btw I observe that Patsy was clearly free and de-arrested very quickly, to be making videos so soon.

This makes me so angry.
MichelleofzeResistance · 14/03/2021 09:11

They dance with extinction rebellion, they take the knee for BLM.

And they fiddle with their phones and look into the distance when TRAs kick windows and threaten women.

They arrest women protesting peacefully.

The evidence yet again of how little women matter in society and how acceptable it is seen to treat them in ways no one would dare treat other socially valued (and male dominated) groups.

I also had a relative in a Japanese POW camp who physically came back but not mentally - believe me, neither he nor anyone else who suffered and died in those places was doing it for the right of people to dress in black and enjoy a bit of a kick off for their own personal satisfaction and politics. Dragging their name and memory into this childish and awful behaviour as some kind of justification for it spits on the sacrifice made for freedom of democracy, equality of values, that no one should be reported to the police and arrested for what they say, that no one should be terrorised or worse for not believing and acting according to a dominant political narrative.... we have taken a very, very wrong turn if this toddler tantrum stuff is being viewed by those doing it as something noble and justifiable.

I hope Janice is aware of the involvement of Sisters Uncut. Her Twitter feed is all about blaming the police for not “hanging back”.

InfoInfoInfo · 14/03/2021 09:16

Sisters uncut do not speak for me

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 14/03/2021 09:17

It is possible to criticise Sisters Uncut and the police handling of the event, both in the planning and their behaviour yesterday. They have managed to police countless other events during Covid without them being hijacked and these scenes developing- why this event?

Also, in the past the Met police saved my life when I was a victim of male violence

The police helped me on several occasions too. Let's not make this about the police as a force, it's disgusting

Impatiens · 14/03/2021 09:19

@Cuntysnark

Janice Turner is in Times radio in the next hour talking about this. She’s a good ‘un.
She's always spot on, thanks I'll be listening.
Beedeeai · 14/03/2021 09:24

There was little police involvement when it was a vigil, as intended. The mood quickly changed as it got later, and the chanting, banners weren't anything to do with SE, the police stepped in at that point.

Of course it's not every member of the Met but it IS about the Met as a force

Their ingrained racism and misogyny had got to be dealt with as a force if there's ever going to be any hope for change. You're going to attract the wrong people into the force if they see their sick attitudes are condoned and put off decent people.

KitchenFairy · 14/03/2021 09:24

@TatianaBis

It's rather telling that women can't protest in peace about male violence without men getting violent - TRAs, police etc.
This just sums it up perfectly.
Beedeeai · 14/03/2021 09:26

@InfoInfoInfo

Sisters uncut do not speak for me
Nor me, as they pander to men and demand they have access to women's spaces.
Freespeecher · 14/03/2021 09:29

@WarriorN

Coffee is alluding to the level of protest last night. Certainly online as well.

But it's clear the whole thing was taken over by others with agendas.

Looks to be the long and short of it. A pity.

You must have been at a different vigil to me then, because they chanting started before 5:30pm, the banners were there from the start (and all related to ending male violence against women)

The mood only changed when the police presence suddenly increased

All the police who had previously been standing quietly on the paths leading from the roads to the bandstand walked in, pushing the crowd in as they did so, and then surged forward onto the cobbles around the bandstand.

When they outnumbered the women in the bandstand by several times, their intentions became very clear to everyone

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 14/03/2021 09:38

From what I saw, the ACAB chanting started after the police moved in. Which does make a difference IMO.

That video that you linked to... immediately after the but shown in the video, everyone was chanting ‘who’s streets, our streets’ which carried on for a while. Then ‘curfew for men’

It wasn’t some rabid anti police protest

Cwenthryth · 14/03/2021 09:39

Well that’s clearly not true from images widely shared of “ACAB” (all cops are bastards) banners and the group on the bandstand holding a banner stating “NO KILLERS NO COPS” with drawing of pigs on it. I don’t believe for a moment that the anti-police disruptors were the majority of people present yesterday but it seems odd to deny their well documented presence hijacking the event.

I wonder why Sisters Uncut only shared that bit then? What might their agenda be.

WarriorN · 14/03/2021 09:42

Sisters uncut definitely don't speak for me

She has a name. Sarah Everard. Not SE. Don’t strip her name from her.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/03/2021 09:45

So the event was highjacked by radical groups and Sarah's family, in anticipation if this, didn't want it to do ahead?

Makes sense now, but still there was no no need for the police to be so heavy handed.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2021 09:47

I don't believe most of the fighty men were there because they give a fuck about Sarah Everard or violence against women.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 14/03/2021 09:52

The police may have done some public flower head band wearing dancing with XR by day but they were also brutal and heavy handed with XR protestors -particularly PoC - by night.

Sparechange · 14/03/2021 09:56

@Ereshkigalangcleg

There weren’t lots of ‘fighty men’ there.

The vast vast majority of men there were with a woman

I mentioned this, but it was just supposition - we don't know that.

I do think it likely that current surge testing for the South African variant in SW11 entered into their calculations.
