Is this a reach or....? Amazon mother's day trans flag giftcard

theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 13/03/2021 14:21

Browsing for mother's day gift ideas and here is Amazon's official giftcard for mother's day - in the same colours and with the "you" having the same stripe formation as the trans flag?

Is this a reach or am I right to ask what on earth? Hmm

Shouldn't this be on AIBU?

Answer: Yes.

Answer: Yes.

Frankly I think it would be better being nowhere.

Why would you be bothered that Mother's Day cards for trans people exist?

@theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes

That's interesting. My search terms were "mother's day gifts".

I wonder what changes the results.

The results on Amazon searches are selected by your browser history. I’ve just put in the same details as you and i got 18 different choices. The card you copied here was 12th in the list.
MissBarbary · 13/03/2021 17:51

If I were the OP I would ask for this thread to be removed. All it does is show her browsing history is so skewed that even searching "Mother's day gift cards" goes straight to a trans related item.

The assumption from that it's part of some sort of Amazon run conspiracy isn't a good look.

Justanotherworkingmom · 13/03/2021 17:54

This thread says way more about the OP than Amazon or anyone else.

theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 13/03/2021 18:14

Yes, because holidays centred around women have never had a history of being co-opted.

I see that this was the millionth result for everyone else, but it was the first on mine.

I think you are right Op, it is a reach.

The problem is that there is so much encroachment into femail spaces by Tras (note I say Tras, not trans people) that we start to see monsters in the shadows. It is a perfectly normal reaction to the deluge of everyday misogyny spouted by many under the guise of being inclusive - when the result is to exclude many women.

There is room for a trans card in the market. It’s great there is one. If a trans child wants to give one - OK. Last year I gave my Mother an amethyst, moonstone and green garnet broach to my feminist mother and she loved it. It is similar in nature.

It would not be OK if this were the only option, but that is not the case.

bourbonne · 13/03/2021 18:16

It's a bit weird that a Mother's Day themed gift card has the trans flag in it, without there being any reference to this in the product description. It seems like whoever designed it wants to sneak it in under the radar, rather than explicitly marketing it as a "Happy (Trans) Mother's Day" gift card for those who might want such a thing. That leaves a bit of a bad taste really, like they are going to be smirking at how many people have unsuspectingly bought it.

bourbonne · 13/03/2021 18:18

To those suggesting it's coincidence, have you Google image searched the trans flag? It's definitely there, the only question is what that's all about.

I don't think anyone has said it's a coincidence. The result the OP got is based on her browsing history.

However the bizarre conclusions that this the only option available and is Amazon's "official " card are entirely the OP's.

*no transphobia on MN " parts of this thread are.

😂😂😂 Oh please.
SixDegrees · 13/03/2021 18:55

Well, that took some finding.

Not there - or not on the first page, at least - when I searched Mothers Day gift card, gift vouchers or Mother’s Day gifts.

When I looked under the gift cards and gift vouchers category for Mother’s Day gifts, it did eventually appear, but at the bottom of the first page. So ignoring all the suggestions for flowers, chocolates and jewellery thrown in there, it was the 14th gift card from the top on my screen. Plenty of other gift card designs showing up first.

So I’d say it’s a bit of a reach OP.

Skyliner001 · 13/03/2021 18:59

...here is Amazon's official giftcard for mother's day said the OP.

😂😂😂

therocinante · 14/03/2021 00:42

It doesn't even come up for me. And surely, given that there are dozens of choices, there's no issue with it being there? It's not like it's the only choice.

Agreed.
EspressoExpresso · 14/03/2021 00:49

OP it must be exhausting being so easily offended by such minor things. Please make sure you rest up this weekend, won't you?

Skyliner001 · 14/03/2021 09:01

I think OP has gone to ground. This thread did not become the echo chamber they expected.

highame · 14/03/2021 09:06

We had our Mother's day yesterday, because DS is working today. No pink on any of my cards, but I was against using those colours to distinguish my kids sex's, so they have carried on the tradition Grin.

Quaagars · 14/03/2021 13:58

So what, failing to see a problem here? It's just a card.
Trans people can be parents too?
Stands to reason some mums who are trans might have a card suitable for them, just like stepmums, or foster mums etc.
You pick the one most suitable for your mum.
Or is this just a chance for a dig at people who are trans" as why does it matter if they get a card too?

Skyliner001 · 14/03/2021 13:59

@Quaagars 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

SionnachRua · 14/03/2021 14:13

How embarrassing for OP Grin Grin

And as for the other one further up thread who suggested it's a grand trans conspiracy to trick people into buying products with the trans flag, that gave me a good laugh. I'm sure that's exactly why Amazon brought out the product. Really cracked the code there.

Skyliner001 · 14/03/2021 14:16
