I am so very sad - Would you like to walk with me tonight at 6pm - with a candle?

Tonight there was to have been a vigil on Clapham Common cancelled by the police.... Heartbreaking on so many levels.

All the planned vigils have been cancelled.

But we are all allowed to walk - in our households or with one friend socially distanced.

Would you tonight consider walking with a candle?

Perhaps encourage others to walk too?

Even tell them where you might be going?

And courage calls to courage everywhere... Janice Turner's tweet summed it up perfectly - pasted below

I suspect many women will head to Clapham anyway this evening. Will be interesting to see if the Met dares arrest or fine them, given one of their own officers has been charged with Sarah Everard’s murder. What would the Suffragettes do?

Seriously would any other vulnerable group protesting a grotesque death allegedly by a police officer be told be kind, contain your anger, post hashtags online. But ladies: stay home, be nice.

Fuck lighting a candle, quite honestly.

The more women out and about taking exercise the better... the more men staying off the streets the better. Look after / out for each other

Sofuckingsad · 13/03/2021 13:07

Yes. I'm going to walk tonight at 6.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 13/03/2021 13:07

I'm going to be out for a vigil.

OhHolyJesus · 13/03/2021 14:56

I'm on duty but I'll light a candle and think of you and Sarah Everard and all the women everywhere who have ever suffered at the hands of men and who weren't believed.

Joining a virtual vigil with the feminists of London . My heart feels heavy today, for Sarah and all women

stumbledin · 13/03/2021 15:36

I am not sure why but the organisers of the Clapham Common vigil are asking everyone to light a candle on their doorstep and 9:30pm tonight. I think because that is when Sarah was last seen. Sad Angry

It would be good if you have neighbours you get on with to share this with them and maybe share photos on SM etc..

But nothing to stop anyone having the regulations permitted walk at 6pm as well!

One thing that is brilliant is that after they say how effective their fundraiser was to cover legal costs (now closed) they have started another fundraiser and all money dontated will go to women's groups!!!

I’m meeting my daughter for a socially distanced vigil at 6.00, just the two of us. Back home to light a candle for 9.30. All of which is, of course completely inadequate, but we both feel we need to do something.

All women's group who include men in their definition of women - according to the other thread.
