Elon Musk - the place of women in his race to mars

Outoftheshadow · 13/03/2021 07:40

Hypothetical question:

So if Elon Musk ever gets a rocket to Mars and his next objective is to COLONISE it, what mix of our species should he choose?

(Assume all people have the right skills and knowledge needed and they all go voluntary)

  1. ‘manned’ up primarily men
  2. men and TWAW
  3. equal mix of men, ciswomen and TWAW 4)equal mix men and ciswomen
  4. more ciswomen than men
  5. just ciswomen (along with semen samples)

Now consider If his space ship had room for just 20 people and he could only launch every 20 years, again which option would give him the BEST chance of achieving his primary objective, that of colonisation? DOES THIS AFFECT YOUR ANSWER?

Apologies for use of term ciswomen -sic, but I wanted to be clear about what ‘type’ of women i mean incase some one who denies sex tries to answer 😭

You’re going to need a lot more than 20 people because you will end up with inbreeding problems.

You'd need around 14,000 to avoid inbreeding problems in the long term. Re: Cameron Smith from 2014.
Outoftheshadow · 13/03/2021 08:22

Agree you would need more in reality - but the question was which option would give him the best chance..

'woman' is all you need. Stop normalising sexist misogynistic claptrap.

Agree. Just stop it.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/03/2021 08:33

Option 6. Men wouldn’t really be that useful.

Evarish · 13/03/2021 08:33

I'd rather he stopped blasting the planet we have with constant missile failures and use his money to retain it.

Imagine being the breeding fodder of some man's inflated science fiction fantasy.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/03/2021 08:35

Option 2, defo.

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 13/03/2021 08:40

A mixed crew. Men tend to suffer impaired vision more due to fluid shifting into the head more than women. Conversely, women are more vulnerable to cancer than men - more radiosensitive tissue than men plus it's a bit more buried (ovaries vs testes)

Tibtom · 13/03/2021 08:51

If we are to play this stupid 'cis' game then (1) you won't get any 'cis' women on a space program as that would go against gendered expectations.
(2) Your sexism shows in that you don't feel the need to label men 'cis'

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 13/03/2021 08:59

Well that's me told I thought we'd be talking more science and futurism here. We could see a Martian colony in our life time dammit!

I'll even have a part to play in it!

While I doubt that it was sexism so much as oversight, you're right that specifying cis men would be handy. A trans man could potentially get pregnant if he so desired, after all.
Outoftheshadow · 13/03/2021 09:02

My apology was for the use of the blasphemous word. But I was bemused by having to feel I need to use the word in the context of the current climate where we are being told biological sex doesn’t exist. To ask a question which is ultimately about reproduction we still need ‘labels’ to differentiate ‘sex’ no matter what people say. But then I know I’m teaching you all how to suck eggs, so I don’t say this to be condescending - merely to vocalise my own concerns about the whole debate as I have joined this party late!

You don't need to use the word. Women says all you need to know.

Yes, so just say women.

SquishySquirmy · 13/03/2021 09:09

I think Elon Musk knows the difference between males and females. I don't think he believes "twaw"...

DudeistPriest · 13/03/2021 09:09

I thought it was going to be populated with his army of robots

If you manage to find a trans man who'd love to be the reproduction factory of a take-over of Mars (with no way out for the next 20 years if he changes his mind and full of coerced pregnancy and likely sexual abuse, likewise for any and all cis women involved in the think piece), have... fun?

I can't even imagine entertaining the idea of stacking people on a planet like cattle with the implication that they have to or else they'll be the disappointment of Mars-humankind.

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 13/03/2021 09:09

Babies are a long way down the line there is no data on 0 4gee on pregnancy and reproduction . Would need studies in animals first.

Tibtom · 13/03/2021 09:13

Nobody does. Especially the most fervant TRA.

Tibtom · 13/03/2021 09:14

Ooops. Lost the quote. That was in reference to not believing TWAW ^^

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/03/2021 09:16

I'd believe that people believed that MTF trans people were women if they could ever manage to define "woman" in a non-circular way.

midgedude · 13/03/2021 09:17

You don't need a sci to thought experiment

You can ask the same sort of questions

Soldiers after winning a major victory throughout time have killed some of the overrun population and raped others

Which of your categories do you think would be killed? Raped?

Tibtom · 13/03/2021 09:25

If you were running a space program would you look for the most medically fit people you could find who are mentally stable and resilient. Or would you take people who need a life time of medication, which all needs to be lifted into space at vast cost, and which increases risk of medical complications and shortened life expectancy. People who bones are already low density before the effect of gravity. Who are much more likely to have mental health difficulties and consider a crew mate 'misgendering' actual violence?

CthulhuChristmas · 13/03/2021 09:29

'Ciswomen' but not 'cismen'. I see.

Stop trying to normalise this bullshit colonisation of our language. The word is women. If you need to distinguish, women and transwomen is fine.
