So dd was told at school today (girls private) that they shouldn’t wear their games skorts on the school bus (shared with boys) or out of school without wearing tracksuit over because it might be “provocative”....

Dd totally unimpressed (“they designed the uniform and we should be telling the boys off if necessary”) ...I’m seething!!

That's absolutely appalling.

Complain.

That is completely and utterly unacceptable. They should be fucking ashamed.

Definitely complain.

So why is a skirt even an option then? Who is it benefitting? I'm pretty sure exercise in skirts/skorts is not any more preferable than leggings or shorts or joggers.

I'd be writing a strongly worded letter.

School has uniform policy.
Girls wear said uniform.
Girls are chastised for wearing said uniform.
Girls are told they are provocative.
It's bonkers and sexist.

Girls can get a behaviour point in our school if they wear too short or stretchy skirts. I emailed the school about this just this week asking who monitors girls skirts. What is too short?
Stretchy skirts are not supposed to be worn so that is fair enough.
The skirt choice is a pleated one or a pencil skirt. I assume most find the pencil skirt awkward to walk in or ill fitting so buy the trendy stretchy ones. Noone wears the pleated skirt because it is deemed not trendy. My suggestion was to do away with the pencil skirt and just have the one choice and stop looking at girl's legs!
This does have issues in that the pleated skirt probably isn't available cheaply in supermarkets.
It just made me angry and I don't know what I said is right but I had to say something just like you have to.
Girls aren't responsible for make gaze.
