How Google shuts women down

I'm in tech so can't be openly critical of gender online because my income depends on it and there's only me to pay my rent, support my adult children etc.

Today, grieving the death of yet another innocent woman, it all became too much so I decided to create a new email address and twitter account and, having seen something that strongly resonated, used that to create a gmail account.

I've got a few different gmail accounts, for freelance web dev/accountancy work and for personal privacy. I've never, EVER, had this much trouble creating one. I'd really like to think they're putting the t e r f letters through a human filter to fight slurs but sadly, I doubt it...

Just try a different user name?

The thing that pissed me off was I had an account on Facebook for radfem stuff that was anon. Anyway I can't get into it any more because Facebook said I wasn't real, I suspect that was triggered by the groups I was in.

The point, for me, is that merfnotterf was the main rationale. I'm GC but not excluding all trans in my feminism, I'm excluding males because they don't belong no matter what clothes they wear or what gender they identify as.

I wanted to make that really clear but it appears Google doesn't want me to

I was googling for feminist perspectives on pornography and prostitution yesterday and honestly, Google could not have been more obtrusive and difficult if there was someone at the other end actually trying to block me.

It's amazing what they can do and such a shame that it's not used to help people.

This looks more like they think you are a bot or something?

I think social media will start wanting proof of ID soonish.

I've tried googling trans convicted murderer rates and inmates in a multitude of ways and only get trans victims coming up.

Google deliberately pushes what it wants you to see. Douglas Murray discussed this in the Madness of Crowds. I didn't believe him but tried some of his searches for myself and saw how Google ignores what you are actually searching for and shows you what it wants you to see

I’ve switched to Ecosia for my browser - I haven’t done a comparison on search results etc to see if there is manipulation but they plant trees and are not google.

I found this via a Twitter link yesterday - might be useful if you were struggling to find stats. transcrimeuk.com/
