for fucks fucking sake!

"Peters’ longlisting comes after organisers clarified in 2020 that it was open to any “cis woman, a transgender woman or anyone who is legally defined as a woman or of the female sex”. “It’s a prize for women, and trans women are women, so …” said chair of judges and author Bernardine Evaristo."

It gets more ridiculous with every headline. How long will this collective cognitive dissonance go on?
More to the point, how long will women, the majority in the population, put up with this shit?
Sickened and angry.

I'm sure there will be a stream of one-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads before too long.

MissBarbary · 11/03/2021 12:41

I am actually starting to think someone somewhere – maybe Evaristo, maybe the judges collectively, maybe even Peters who knows - has done this deliberately as a lot of people will now read it and might start to understand what many TWs' thought processes are when they think about "feeling like a woman" or "knowing they're a woman". It is the most misogynistic possible view of womanhood - all about sex, being a victim, liking being a victim and having no other purpose. Absolutely revolting and horrifying, and the polar opposite of feminism

You are deluded if you think Evaristo is some sort of fifth columnist undercover gender critical feminist.

Evaristo is among the wokiest of woke.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 12:44

So...a biologically male author writing about a deeply misogynistic fetish unique to men, sissyfication, has been nominated for the women's prize? This is incredibly offensive to women.

The author think being harmed and saying "ow" is feminine and a turn on FFS!

nope, it's going down really well on the writers and readers pages im on. she isa woman etc etc

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 12:46

Men often feel delicate and say ow when they, for example, get kicked in their nether regions.

AbsintheFriends · 11/03/2021 13:00

On my timeline there are lots of tweets from high profile publishing people saying how brave and brilliant the Women's prize longlist is mixed in with tweets from the same accounts about their experience of sexual harassment and how impossible it is to explain to men the constant, in-built fear women have of assault.

Jesus wept.

WindyPudding · 11/03/2021 13:02

You are deluded

But maybe some GC feminists are taking the undercover route and deluding us well? Optimistic I know, but we know many people are having to hide their real views, especially in this field.

Also it's being praised now but you'd think at least some wokies would have a little wake-up call when they read it... (I know some have)

Anyway, I'll cling to my hopes.

That's about the size of it. Progressive isn't it.
TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 11/03/2021 13:08

Excellent post Windy

BitMuch · 11/03/2021 13:41

Peters dedicated Detransition, Baby to divorced 'cis' women. In this interview, Peters says the book will be useful for women to learn from the transwomen characters mindsets. slate.com/culture/2021/01/torrey-peters-detransition-baby-interview.amp.

Aethelthryth · 11/03/2021 13:43

I saw an extract posted on Twitter. It's pornography

Same here. Fucking hell.
OnlyTeaForMe · 11/03/2021 13:46

well I doubt it will go down well with the age 40+ women in the home counties who account for 80% of book sales!

Would they dare say otherwise?
WindyPudding · 11/03/2021 14:02

My post got deleted and I can't remember all the details - does anyone know what I said that will have been the offending part? Asking genuinely because I'm not sure.

WindyPudding · 11/03/2021 14:11

Why would a woman who is every bit as much a woman as I am (and I'm a bigot if I think otherwise), write about the thrill of being hit by a man, put at risk by a man in a domestic situation, and possibly catching AIDS because it's a bit like possibly getting pregnant, and be longlisted for a women's book award for doing so? It makes no sense. The only way such content would be lauded like this is if it was a feminist novel addressing these issues, not just celebrating thinking that way.

You know, a verrrry liberal part of my mind can just about accommodate the thought of a widely respected TW writer such as Jan Morris being included in a women's longlist, for a book that doesn't egregiously and obviously shit on the whole idea of women and is about some other subject. I wouldn't be happy because it would still be taking a woman's place, but I could just about see the liberal just-be-kind reasoning.

But why this writer and this book with the most misogynistic possible content? It's truly bizarre (if not an insider GC move)

Alexandernevermind · 11/03/2021 14:15

Appropriatation. End of.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 14:22

It is certainly a way to inform more women about the existance of sissy fetishes.

WeeBisom · 11/03/2021 14:24

So along with Andrea Chu, it seems that Peters is also talking openly about their trans experience in a very...candid way, shall we say. More and more trans women seem to be testing the waters and openly admitting the real motivations for their transition. My worry (and it probably will come to pass) is that women are so deeply committed to the trans cause that they won't care, or they will excuse it. But it is shocking to read those extracts and see the appropriation on full display.

Gerla · 11/03/2021 14:34

Appropriatation. End of.

Agreed. I don't agree with everything that is written about cultural appropriation but FGS why is it a heinous crime for a white woman to wear her hair in corn rows and yet, this THIS is lauded. Sickening.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 14:35

Lots of deletions now! I don't remember reading anything offensive in this thread, other than Peters’ writing.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 11/03/2021 14:38

Wow. Swiss cheese!
