for fucks fucking sake!

"Peters’ longlisting comes after organisers clarified in 2020 that it was open to any “cis woman, a transgender woman or anyone who is legally defined as a woman or of the female sex”. “It’s a prize for women, and trans women are women, so …” said chair of judges and author Bernardine Evaristo."

Sorry - 'Women Poets’ Prize'

Buzzinwithbez · 11/03/2021 09:52

@Wandawomble

“Reese nearly had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York, a job she didn't hate. She'd scraped together a life previous generations of trans women could only dream of; the only thing missing was a child. Then everything fell apart and three years on Reese is still in self-destruct mode, avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.

When her ex calls to ask if she wants to be a mother, Reese finds herself intrigued. After being attacked in the street, Amy de-transitioned to become Ames, changed jobs and, thinking he was infertile, started an affair with his boss Katrina. Now Katrina's pregnant. Could the three of them form an unconventional family - and raise the baby together?“

Sounds absolutely rubbish. Most people won’t want to read it, prize or no prize.

I feel like I'd need to draw some sort of diagram to work out what that all means.

This whole charade just makes me think of Germaine Greer and her quote about how most women don’t realise just how much some men hate us.

@PotholeParadies

This is the page that was going around twitter.
Is this seriously what Bernadine Evaristo would suggest is a 'really good storyteller'? Because it sounds like the story version of the author wanking tbh.

And the 'quiet dignity of saying ow' in the other screen shot is frankly glorifying male violence. How very progressive. Hey girls, male violence is sexy and validating! Not an endemic problem at all!

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 11/03/2021 10:44

Peters also wrote this...

@PotholeParadies

CovoidOfAllHumanity that is exactly what I thought it was when I saw that screenshot, and I just shrugged. As I said before, you can buy a lot of ebooks that are less than cerebral in nature.

But this new development puts a different gloss on it.

I've got some more screenshots, womanittee.

That sounds like utter garbage!
DreamyDays77 · 11/03/2021 10:51

The screenshot I mean

PenguindreamsofDraco · 11/03/2021 10:54

I am reading all these extracts with my jaw on the floor.

This, coming on the back of the Scottish debacle yesterday, feels like some kind of social experiment to see how far our boundaries can be pushed before we snap.

It is very interesting to me that the topic of the author's book cannot be discussed without getting a deletion, even though the book is available and advertised and the author herself discusses it freely.

PotholeParadies · 11/03/2021 11:08

Yy, Zeev.

SunsetBeetch · 11/03/2021 11:08

How utterly repulsive. Wtf is wrong with people?

PotholeParadies · 11/03/2021 11:10

Just longlisted, Spartacus. At the moment... and at the expense of another author.

Shizuku · 11/03/2021 11:11

This is excellent news. I wish her well.

Scrunchy95 · 11/03/2021 11:11

@ASmallMovie

Hopefully she'll win. And hopefully next year the entire list will be TW.

And then finally the folk who don't think there's an issue with self ID/TWAW ideology will wake the fuck up.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 11/03/2021 11:17

Ow? ow?

I’m trying to remember if I said ‘ow’ when my ex rearranged my face forever.

Nope. Don’t think I did.

My recollection could be hazy though. I was unconscious for most of it.

Ow.

Indeed.

NotTerfNorCis · 11/03/2021 11:19

Now I know more about it, I can't understand why Peters was included - their work seems to be 'Fifty Shades' type fantasies from a male sissification perspective. Not good literature, and not good for women.

oneglassandpuzzled · 11/03/2021 11:26

Sales of this book will be low and it will vanish.

wellthatsunusual · 11/03/2021 11:33

My deleted post shows me that even sarcasm is off limits now. No criticism or mockery of this 'art' can be tolerated. Bad enough that we can't openly discuss the bigger issue but we can't even criticise the writing.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/03/2021 11:39

"Just longlisted, Spartacus".

Phew.

Has anyone alerted those who advocate for women who are victims of violence? It does seem that the door could be open for some social action on this one.

MTCoffeePot · 11/03/2021 11:53

According to the BBC - Evaristo thinks that Piers Morgan's departure is "a triumph for feminists everywhere." Personally, I wouldn't consider Morgan's departure anything to do with feminism.

Well she's a disaster for feminists everywhere, then.
