The chances of a copper seeing me do anything are slim to none when they are so busy dealing with this nonsense, I'll take them.
Thanks for the lagal advice though

@334bu

Somebody obviously wasn't in Scotland during Referendum when we were " Sticker Central." Also must be a great relief to Kirsty and Christina that they are not in Edinburgh where their staff would be terrorised by all the Fringe adverts publicising Shakespeare, comedies and political satire shows. Oh wait Mr Yousaf will have them all banged up in jail for Hate Speech. Problem solved.
The festival organisers pay to remove them: outofhand.co.uk/outdoor-advertising-festivals

A key element of the scheme is removing flyposting, stickers and graffiti near all our advertising sites – thousands of items are removed, resulting in a marked reduction in flyposting year on year and a vastly improved appearance in Edinburgh city centre. It is estimated we save the council in excess of £100,000 in annual street cleaning costs though our involvement in operating the scheme.

I was involved in an event and we got hit with a bill for flyposting from the council (who we needed a licence from and so had to pay it) - £800 per poster!

Well done Fringe but what about these.

Well yeah there's political stickers everywhere, just like there is graffiti, that doesn't mean it's legal, as the poster upthread said, you're not very likely to get caught if you don't do it that often. I nearly did once though, it was only the heroic action of a couple of street drinkers who started laying into each other a few yards away that saved me and meant the cops had to abandon arresting me to deal with that. I've often thought I owe them both a drink.

No problem, was probably more criminal advice than legal advice though Grin

I'd also advise against announcing you were planning on committing a crime on a public internet forum but it's a bit late for that I guess.

PotholeParadies · 10/03/2021 01:23

I used to live in a bit of a rough area. One morning, I realised that while I'd been immersed in arguing on AIBU the previous night, someone had done a huge graffiti tag on the outside wall of the flat.

And I mean, huge.

It honestly never occurred to me that the police would be interested in that, so I never let them know. I really can't get behind the idea they would have cared.

PotholeParadies · 10/03/2021 01:33

Anyway, a sticker, I definitely wouldn't call the police.

Like all the Twitter transactivists declaring their intention to deliberately give false information on their census return, you mean?

PotholeParadies · 10/03/2021 01:59

I've been watching that rather agog.

Fancy announcing that on twitter, under your real name accompanied by a profile picture of yourself.

WD40 takes off any sticky residue left behind from stickers. It can’t help with the emotional trauma though.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/03/2021 06:52

The stickers!

The glue!

THE HORROR!!!!!!

(Smoke bomb? Nah, totes safe and non threatening, chill everybody)

Grace Brett, you rock 💓

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/03/2021 09:42

I really hope my Nan, were she still alive would be a sticker wielding, guerrilla knitter.

Although actually, if it was a toss up between having a quiet word with her or some dude with a barb wire decorated baseball bat and a Kill a Terf T Shirt, I think we know who the fuzz would make a bee line for. A stripy tea towel is a literal weapon, after all.

NonHypotheticalLurkingParent · 10/03/2021 10:13

If you do encounter the heinous issue of sticky residue, rather than going in with white sprit, I’d suggest an orange oil based solvent. It won’t damage paintwork or your skin.

Even getting a piece of orange peel and pricking it to release the Citral, then rubbing it on would work...

Sophoclesthefox · 10/03/2021 10:19

Ironically, given the urban legend that just won’t die about hateful bigots hiding razor blades behind such stickers (it’s not true, and never was), if the sticky stuff is really, really sticky, then it can be carefully chiselled off with a razor blade.

It still can’t help with the lasting damage to feelings caused by the hateful violence of some bits of ribbon, though

JosieJarker · 10/03/2021 10:26

"I'd also advise against announcing you were planning on committing a crime on a public internet forum but it's a bit late for that I guess."
What might happen?
Is intent to sticker a crime?

334bu · 10/03/2021 10:39

Loving all the pearl clutching memes.
However, on a more serious note what hope is there for women advocating for their rights if the Hate Bill goes through.
Maybe we should start a " No Prison for Ribbons! !" campaign as that looks the way forward if the likes of Pete Wisgzrt and John Nicolson have their way

334bu · 10/03/2021 10:40

Wishart. Stupid auto correct

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/03/2021 10:45

FWS have put together this fabulous roll of thought criminals - thought it belonged on this thread!

I'm just imagining the suffragettes being given pious talks about their criminality.

PurpleHoodie · 10/03/2021 12:32

Illegal, innit.

PurpleHoodie · 10/03/2021 12:34

Are the colours purple, green and white for the ribbons; or will purple and green suffice?

Thanks.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2021 12:36

It should be all 3 really but those two will suffice if you've no white, I'm sure.

jj1968 · 10/03/2021 12:36

Well they are quite clearly happy to be prosecuted to make their point and good on them. I don't get the impression the sticker people are seeking that kind of attention or they wouldn't be anonymous.

I think there's a place for illegal political activity, I've quite freely admitted I've done it myself. The point really is that you can't expect the police not to be contacted after you've just vandalised an MP's office. By all means break the law, but don't then go crying when the laws that apply to everyone else also apply to you.
