Goddess I love it when judges are 'surprised'

😳 = judge emoji
Helleofabore · 09/03/2021 14:39

Oh my!!! the over reach has yet again had to go to court to be pulled back.

Who the heck was advising them to go in this direction in the first place? Don't bother, I probably know already.

This over reach concerns me greatly. Surely anyone who supports the conflation of sex and gender, the usage of 'inclusive' language that is not in addition to 'woman' or 'girl' and such must be starting to question their complete and wholly given support. These court cases and debates in HoLs are exposing what is actually happening and the truth of the extend that these things are unlawfully happening.

Doesn't this shake the confidence in that belief that women stating that there ARE conflicts between the rights of two groups? And that one group is stating that even questioning that conflict is phobic???

Xanthangum · 09/03/2021 14:39

For anyone who missed the opening remarks, the Fair Cop appeal is likely to conclude tomorrow sometime, so feels a bit less intense

And the days of backroom deals and lying to the public about this stuff are OVER.

Oh they're still trying. And sometimes it'll work. But we're watching now and we have routes to challenge. And they'll know it.

Fucking hell, vipers. I'm exhausted.

Artesia · 09/03/2021 14:39

Oh my! It’s such a relief to see it all laid out so clearly when there’s a requirement for actual reasoned arguments rather than the usual foot stamping and accusations.

Thanks so much for the Twitter relay!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/03/2021 14:39

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

Interim relief. It’s a court order to fix a situation until a full hearing can be held on all the arguments.
So what will that mean in this situation? What more needs to be done iyswim
AngelaMerkelEyeRoll · 09/03/2021 14:39

There needs to be an FOI now to establish who the ONS engaged with which led to the change in position because in February they were clear that the census would record legal sex. Something happened between then and now which changed that position. Secondly how much taxpayers money and civil service time will be spent to fix this.

YES.

KitchenFairy · 09/03/2021 14:40

Congratulations FPFW and everybody that supported them. Feeling really genuinely quite emotional right now Flowers

OvaHere · 09/03/2021 14:40

@UtopiaPlanitia

Why can’t judges do a TLDR at the start of their judgement Shock Refreshing Twitter while hoping for a final result is so nerve wracking!!!
I'm starting to get addicted to the adrenaline hit. I might need Legal Judgement Anonymous by the end of this year! Grin
Sunkisses · 09/03/2021 14:40

Nerves of steel, Fair Play for Women! This was a high stakes legal case. Huge congrats to FPFW, and to all the great people who donated to this important legal action.

stuckinatrap · 09/03/2021 14:40

@nauticant

My day will be made if the judge refers to an ONS argument as #SuperSurprising.

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2021 14:40

JE: ONS asks for substantive hearing next week

"As soon as humanly possible" /80

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2021 14:40

Claimant barrister (Tom Cross) if new evidence is produced by ONS then FPFW must have time to respond.

Judge suggested barristers talk about timings for next week. Judge to look at listing schedule. Reconvene this afternoon to decide the date /81

ANewCreation · 09/03/2021 14:40

That was worth every penny!

greatpurplepolkadots · 09/03/2021 14:40

Will it be the same judge at the next hearing?

RozWatching · 09/03/2021 14:40

Take a bow, Dr Williams & co Flowers

highame · 09/03/2021 14:41

Wonder if the civil service is now having a bit of a re-think on the advice it gets from being a Stonewall Champion - assume it is one, or if not, has very strong links

And just about the same time as FPW tweeted that the interim relief was granted, the census twitter account posted THAT.

Yes indeed
Ninkanink · 09/03/2021 14:42

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

It is a win on two grounds:-
  1. Data quality - no self determination of sex either birth certificate or GRC.
  2. The concerns raised about institutional capture have again been shown to be justified.
Yes.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2021 14:43

Fuck yeah!

Sunkisses · 09/03/2021 14:43

Will the full hearing next week be before the same Judge?

langclegflavoredbananamush · 09/03/2021 14:43

Judge: I find it surprising that ONS says that1/5 of households have already completed the census when it is clear that census day is 21st March /75

I can think of a few more loaded words than "surprising" to describe this, but I don't think I could be polite enough to be a judge
