I think it's an old quote from "The Whole Woman"

She goes on to say this:

I saw Germaine speak in a university debate some years ago (you know, in the olden dayes, when if you disagreed with someone you politely exchanged reasoned arguments like grown ups). She was so superior in her rhetoric it was actually embarrassing to watch her crush the opponent (male academic and medical professional).
