All the Performance Feminists on my Facebook are currently posting lovely fluffy International Women's Day things. Weird though because whenever I share stats on femicide or the reality of things - radio fucking silence.

And it's pissed me right off.

Yep. I've shared one with pretty hard core discussion on what it means to be a woman and no likes.

Cismyfatarse · 08/03/2021 12:38

I have started a thing with people posting photographs of their mothers and listing all the things they had to overcome.

Cismyfatarse · 08/03/2021 12:39

Sorry. Posted too soon. It is a fluffier way of getting the issues out there. Easier for those of us whose Mums are dead but grannies etc.

KitchenFairy · 08/03/2021 12:50

I've shared a photo collage of women including Magdelen Berns and JK Rowling with two lines about inspirational women - tumbleweed.

One of my friends has shared a photo of Beyonce with the quote "who run the world - girls" and has been inundated with "loves" and emoji 💪🏼 comments.

BraveBananaBadge · 08/03/2021 13:02

Yup. A few 'womxns' (clearly didn't get the memo), and worse, a festival that keeps putting a random x to replace different letters in the world female - either keeps spelling their own spelling wrong, or have no idea what they're trying to do...

KitchenFairy · 08/03/2021 13:13

And now someone has posted this in a group I’m in, mustn’t leave the gents out just for one fucking day, must we.

I’ll have to stay off social media for the rest of the day now.

Additionally, have just seen a FB friend wish happy IWD to all the wonderful women in his life and I quote: "(including the cis women!)"

Yes, had better stay off for the rest of the day as well Confused. That's not the kind of stupid you can argue with.

I'm dropping in here to say my feed has been full today of... wow, actually positive things about women! It's quite a shock! From historical sites focusing on some of the lesser known women residents (Hampton Court has a good one today) to friends talking about challenging sexism and a hashtag they're following, to groups celebrating mums and grans. It's making a really refreshing change! Much more visibility than I remember last year and real, grass roots relevant stuff.

Kit19 · 08/03/2021 15:22

yes I have to say this year has felt different, other than the usual corporate suspects and of course NHS England, there's been some great stuff highlighting how even in female dominated sectors, the women are nearly always grouped in the middle and bottom with the men in charge and a lot of women talking about women they work with who've inspired them. Ive seen very little "but when is it international mens day?" whatabouterry as well

EndoplasmicReticulum · 08/03/2021 15:33

Mine has been pleasingly actual-feminist today.
Some friends have pre-empted by putting "19th November, in case you were wondering" at the bottom of posts.

Although have a friend I'm going to have to lose for MLMing, there isn't any cis going on.

That's excellent. Maybe I need new friends, my feed has been all pastel colours and trite slogans.Grin
