For me today is International Women’s Day, in my part of the world it is 8th of March, so Happy International Women’s Day to all who are celebrating it today. In the UK and other similar time zones Happy International Women’s Day to you tomorrow. Hope there is lots of love, support and recognition of women everywhere. We’ve been through a hell of a journey throughput history. Keep fighting for equal opportunity, fighting against misogyny and stand by each other. Flowers

Twix be
Radical Tea Towel. They manufacture in the UK and donate £1 for every mask sold to food banks. It was another MNer who suggested them.

Really well made and arrived the following day Grin

Today I am sending a picture to forwomenscotland's virtual demo.

These are to protest the upcoming Hate Crime bill which threatens to criminalise discussion of biological sex, etc

Happy International Women's Day. You're all so wonderful. I appreciate the work done on this board more than I can say.

Can I ask a favour? Are any of you openly GC on Facebook? A friend of a friend of mine runs a business which supports vulnerable new mums (among other women) through singing groups. It's a wonderful business run by someone properly decent and caring. Except she's very much going down the route of 'what is a woman? etc' They've just put up a long post for IWD discussing just that. I would LOVE to put a comment on their post which is polite but tackles what they're saying and talks about the harm done by that position but I really can't because of the work I do. I don't want them being attacked in any way (but I don't believe that's how people behave on the gc side otherwise I wouldn't be posting this here). This is someone kind who really means well and is genuinely striving to be welcoming and inclusive, but equally they'll be letting down the vulnerable women they work with if they go down this route. I think if there were several comments on their post sharing why this approach is so harmful rather than it actually being kind, they would at least stop and think even if they don't actually change tack.

Anyway, thank you so much if anyone is able to. I've watched this business grow from the sidelines and although I'm not a mum, I've felt so happy thinking of mums with new babies who are feeling v vulnerable having this lovely support and to know they're going in this direction has been upsetting.

Hi everyone thank you for adding to this thread. For those who are writing letters, emails and being actively involved in continuing the fight for equal rights, opportunities, pay for women; thank you.

I spent the day with my daughter travelling on a train for our three day holiday to celebrate her birthday with family and have a bit of adventure away from home. (We’ve been very lucky in Australia and haven’t had Covid restrictions for as long as the UK and other countries or experienced the same level of infection rates).

I spent International Women’s Day teaching my Dd a little bit of history and how women had less freedom and choices and gave examples of how that impacted their lives. I discussed how International Women’s Day is to commemorate the women who fought for equal rights for women, to celebrate and acknowledge women who are continuing to fight for equal rights for women and girls and to celebrate how amazing all women and girls are and we deserve to be regarded with equality.

littlbrowndog thank you for posting the pictures. I’ll use them for teaching my daughter about history.

WaronWomen thank you for your video. Isn’t she amazing! I learnt a little bit of juggling but nowhere near as brilliant or skilful as her.

Hi OP. You lucky bugger, having a trip! I hope you had a lovely time chatting with DD about IWD. And thank you for starting this thread.

I sent one of littlebrowndogs pictures to some friends .... a few replied as we are here. Radio silence from others which is a little disappointing but hey ho. I'm trying to assume that in these cases people are still lurkers and watching what's going on. If just one person sits up and says "What the F?!" that's a great thing.

I tell you what though .... my feet are getting very itchy these days. Wouldn't it be wonderful if in the not too distant future there was a march ...Grin
