Guardian asking for women who have inspired us for IWD

I'm sure plenty of us will have good suggestions.

They do request name and photo, but identifying details aren't all mandatory so it should be fairly simple to keep anonymous if you prefer to.

I'm not sure when it'll close, but it's probably imminent since IWD is on Monday.

Apologies @grandpacificpineapole I have only just seen this. Tagging in hope that it's helpful.

Thank you!

The Guardian has a number of articles celebrating IWD. I was watching out for their piece on women talking about women who have inspired them, but strangely nothing has turned up. I wonder if the nominations they received were all Allison Bailey, JK Rowling etc?

Here's their coverage for anyone who wants to keep an eye on it:

Aayan Hirsi Ali. She was cancelled long ago.

MaMaLa321 · 08/03/2021 13:25

Baroness Nicholson.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 13:29

The Guardian can get lost.

I got an email today inviting invitations for a sponsorship ‘woman and non binary people’ - so my reason is that non binary people can be of either sex?

RoyalCorgi · 08/03/2021 15:09

Oh look, an utterly predictable set of women. Heaven forbid they choose Julie Bindel or Ayaan Hirsi Ali or JK Rowling or Emma Nicholson or any other woman bravely speaking out against the madness.

The Guardian must have been so disappointed to get so few women engaging with their nominations. I mean that can be the only reason for such a short list of the usual suspects right?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2021 15:32

I suppose it's a positive that they're all actually women.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 15:34

Its a shame the the first thing we now do when we see a 'womans' list is have a close look!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 08/03/2021 15:37

My prediction was wrong, it seems.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 15:39

Me too. Still a rather 'thin gruel' list though.

same Liquorish same!

NHS England's twitter video celebrating women in the NHS manages to not be just women

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 15:59

You'd think the medical field ...

MoltenLasagne · 08/03/2021 15:59

4 American women, 1 Australian woman and 1 Swedish woman. I understand they're trying to appeal to an international audience but it's sad there doesn't seem to be a single British woman considered worthy of recognition by the Guardian.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 16:00

That says more about the Guardian and the ninnies who read it.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 16:01

But then I've generally found such lists end up being just 'X that I have heard of' so you get some abs lute car crashes winning things like 'mum' and 'dad' of the year awards.

Thecatonthemat · 08/03/2021 16:28

I liked that Hannah Gadsby was included. But we could provide a great list and as usual the Guardian contribution is super light. Passing on...

HeadIsFucked · 08/03/2021 18:45

I actually put n the comments box, that I hope this actually reflects the votes, and that noone is disregarded, thenfelt a bit bad for assuming they would basically, rig it. Seem I was right to think that in the first place.

Liquorishtoffee · 08/03/2021 18:47

If anyone told me I was about to be arrested I’d probably say ‘good- hope I get put in iscolation as I could do with a rest’

Livinginthecity · 09/03/2021 09:12

Outrageous that Caitlin Jenner (brave and strong) wasn't on that list.
