Interesting article in TES that will not cone as shock to those on here:

Not sure how I got the grocer's apostrophe in the title.

Yes and online culture in general.
There's a huge generational divide where even things like certain online games, which seem innocuous enough to a grown adult, are in fact hotbeds for radicalisation, grooming, and echo chambers for easily influenced youth.

Thank you for posting this. I had no idea and am now going to share this with the other pastoral leads at school.

There's an avenue of information not explored in that article. Not all the young men drawn in by incel culture gravitate to the far right, some of them gravitate elsewhere to other, equally damaging to women and girls, ideologies.

Totally agree.

I listened to an episode of the podcast Intelligence Squared on this issue, with Laura Bates - “men radicalised to hate women”. Very interesting (and chilling) episode.

Well it's good news it's now covered in TES.

I think theres a women (don't know her name) trying to get incels categorised as a terrorist group. Apparently it meets all of the UNs measures for a terrorist group.

Kendodd · 02/03/2021 21:26

So, an organisation, actively targeting and killing women exists and yet misogyny is specifically excluded from hate crime legislation.

Thelnebriati · 02/03/2021 21:42

They seem to be immune to charges of radicalisation as well.

Indeed.

I have never heard the phrase, "grocer's apostrophe" before. I love it and will embed it into my vernacular immediately.
The expression has me so excited that I haven't followed the link and have missed the point of the thread. I'm not even a teacher anymore.

The grocer's apostrophe: a charming description of the sinnest of grammarly sins.

applesauce1 · 03/03/2021 22:49

I've read the article and I feel completely horrible for my frivolous and inappropriate comment. Sorry everyone.

Thanks, that was really good - if disturbing.

solittletime · 04/03/2021 06:55

I’ve noticed a similar trend and mentioned it before, when my yr8 daughter asked me if I’d heard of ‘no simp September’. It’s shocking when you look it up. Doesn’t look like it ever took off as a trend but still horribly insidious and enough to influence the thinking of an impressionable 12 yr old boy.

Go figure, huh?

I've never understood why Hate Crime legislation only covers some protected characteristics.

Kendodd · 04/03/2021 10:31

I posted on here once that misogyny should be included in hate crime legislation and was accused of being a member of the far right for such an opinion.

Kendodd · 04/03/2021 11:02

Also, I think abuse/rape/violence against women is easy to solve, it can be stopped tomorrow. Men just have to stop doing it. That's it, it's that easy. Men choose to abuse women, they can just as easily choose not to. It's a mens problem, not a woman's problem.

What on the feminist chat board? Isn't hate crime leg a leftie thing anyway?
MargaritaPie · 04/03/2021 18:23

I've read the link. So this means if someone uses certain memes that means they should be treated as a terrorist?

The "chad" meme for example isn't used exclusively by incels, it's actually very popular.
