First do no harm

So I have some questions for the medical community on how “first do no harm” is being eroded when children with healthy body parts are being operated on. How can anyone justify this and what will it take for medical professionals to stand up to it? Abigail Shrier was saying in an interview that she often gets medical professionals writing to her in private to share their concerns. She now says to them that they need to do something about it. It seems to me unless a weight of medical people push for this to stop it’s going to just become a nightmare that we can’t bring children back from. What can be done?

The Latin phrase, “Primum non nocere” (above all else, do no harm) is cited frequently and reported to be a major component of the oath. The phrase “Primum non nocere” does not actually appear in the Hippocratic oath

There is no one universal oath and not all the medical schools swear the Hippocratic oath. Glasgow has used an amended version since 2003

The traditional Hippocratic oath has undergone modern reinterpretation eg Declaration of Geneva, and the Lasagna oath . Edinburgh introduced a graduation oath in 2004 and mentions all four themes of biomedical ethics. Queen’s University Belfast’s oath called the Sponsio Academica similarly draws from four themes of biomedical ethics.

Doctors are just as likely to be applying the ethics of social media and GDPR as the Hippocratic oath . Confidentiality is a central tenet
