What to ask your SNP candidate?

Another thread to help us record specific questions to ask political parties on their campaigns. I think the SNP really need to be asked some hard questions.

My starter:

In what way does the redefining of the word woman, in law, to include males, advantage women? Might it (shock) disadvantage women?

Do you think the hate crime bill as suggested (probably passed by the time someone comes canvassing) is compatible with free speech and a liberal, tolerant society?
Something along that line.
And a question relevant locally to me: are you for or against the proposed housing development for Ganavan sands?

Thanks for adding this thread Whydoyouthinkthatthen. The Scottish parliamentary election is coming up in May and the SNP need be asked these questions as much, if not more than, any of the other political parties. The LibDems, Greens and Labour have gone mad but are not in power, the SNP are equally in captured and are in position to inflict very damaging legislation on Scotland.

Question:
Why is hate speech acceptable when it is directed at women? Why are threats of violence towards women such as, “Die in a fire Terf scum,” not just tolerated but normalized? Why does the “hate crime” bill make no effort to address the violent threats made routinely to GC women? Why the difference? Why is women’s speech being controlled while no attempt is made to address the vicious misogyny demonstrated everywhere on social media?

What do you plan to do for female taxpayers who will be unable to access any of the provisions they are paying for because of a protected characteristic preventing them from accessing mixed sex anything? Should these females from vulnerable groups just be excluded and punished for their protected characteristic?

Does this approach to inclusion work when it has and will continue to exclude many female people from any provisions at all so that male people can have their preferred choice of provisions? How do you explain this without the fundamental idea that male people feelings and freedoms matter more than female people need and civil rights equality? How is this you behaving responsibly and impartially in your position of responsibility?

Are you seriously as a party not clever enough to come up with answers that meet all needs equally and achieve proper inclusion and progress as opposed to this disastrous favouritism of protected characteristic at the expense of others?

Oh and "Ever heard of the phrase no taxation without representation?"

I find asking their position on trans rights quite illuminating. I always try to start off neutral so they don't just tell me.what I want to hear, then you can forensically dismantle their arguments if required.

Why won't your party respect the result of the 'once in a generation/lifetime' vote in 2014 and concentrate on running things properly instead of budgeting for another referendum?

Are you happy to place intact male bodied rapists in women’s prisons?

The UK government gave you £9 billion to support Scottish businesses during lockdown. Why have you withheld nearly £3 billion of it, while retailers and the hospitality industry are on their knees, and when will you answer the Auditor General’s question as to what you have done with it?

Why are you flying the EU flag on official buildings instead of our own country’s Union flag, which you have banished to once a year on Remembrance day?

When is Sturgeon going to resign?

What currency do you plan to use if (God forbid) you ever got independence? And will you admit that Scots mortgage payments (all due in pounds Sterling) will double if the new currency is only worth half Sterling?

You asked to be judged on education. Why have you allowed Scottish schools to plummet down the international league tables?

Under the SNP, Scotland has the lowest proportion of new business start ups in the UK. Can you explain your failure to support businesses?

Have you learned anything at all from the huge waste of taxpayers’ money in debacles such as Bifab, the massively over budget ferries, the hospitals not fit for purpose?

Do you think that it is acceptable for the media, courts, police and civil service all to be muzzled by the government in a virtual one party state, and do you accept that this makes Scotland a tinpot banana dictatorship without the bananas, as the Times editorial so eloquently put it?
