Where do you even start with this? Particularly when you can't use the language to describe what's happening here fb.watch/3UOsw4hiKw/

Its awful. The replies so far are mainly GC Grin and I'm loving the one comment that said men should be expanding the remit of manhood to include non conforming males. Spot on.

Just reminds me of Alex Drummond and his "widening the bandwidth of what it means to be a woman" nonsense.

Same old tired crap.

Spiegelx · 26/02/2021 16:36

Such waffle.
Why don't they just say what they mean. Expand womanhood to include men.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 26/02/2021 16:43

Yes, it's almost a direct steal from Alex Drummond's "widening the bandwidth of being a woman" speech in the Magdalin Berns video, where do they learn this script?

It is supposed to be a #LGBT history month but is linking to a thread about women being first allowed into Oxford in 1920, very odd, or is women's equality just lumped in to LGBT now?

If only he could widen the bandwidth of what passes for a brain.

The frustrating thing is according to queer theory women who fought to gain access to an education weren’t performing femininity and were behaving in gender nonconforming ways. Whereas with good old fashioned feminist analysis we can see that education was withheld from women by men due to sexism- it was sex based oppression. I also have to point out the irony of having a person discuss the struggle of women to get a degree at Oxford when 100 years they would have been accepted no problem.

He made a good start with "I'd like to start thinking ...", but failed to follow through.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/02/2021 18:41

Is this satire?

About women's right being lumped in with the LGBT+. There was a post last year (during the first lockdown?) From an MNer who was within earshot of her daughter doing a homeschool lesson by Zoom. The teacher was leading a discussion about the rights of different groups and asked the pupils if there were any areas they would like to discuss. The DD twice asked if the class could discuss women's rights, and the teacher twice pointed to 'LGBT+' which they had written on a board behind them - as if to say that they were one and the same thing.

It's really stayed with me - I think about it often, even though I don't have children and I haven't had personal experience of this institutional brainwashing.

Well that was expected. Seems a bit mean when there were no pronouns to indicate what sex the person wanted me to pretend they were, but ok, sorry Mumsnet.

yeah, it's a really weird conflation. I am hyper aware of stuff like this with my daughter. Hate having to be on alert the whole time to it.

The comment from "Riccardo" someone or other is pitch perfect. Manages to hit just the right note of playing dumb and going along with it (how wonderful that Oxford is having these conversations!) while putting forward a GC argument Grin
