Today, we’re focusing on misgendering, which is one of the most common unintentional blunders made by cisgender people. Why not try adding your pronouns to your email signature, which provides clarity and encourages others to do the same ^#LGBTHM21 t.co/nsTP871iQB^

So. I haven't worked out what to say yet but I'm sure you will have thoughts.

No, I don't think I'll be doing that, thanks. Why not focus on the pandemic and huge backlog of work there will be when it ends?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 24/02/2021 19:25

I noticed on Twitter the other day that somebody referred to somebody else using a particular word - which was in that Tweeter's bio but I hadn't recognised as a novel pronoun (and novel word afaik) because it wasn't the final item (which is where people who mention their pronouns tend to put them).

It made me wonder about the cognitive load of (notionally) checking the pronouns of everybody before writing/speaking. Do people do this just in case, or, largely, do they assume that they are what they think they are?

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2021 19:26

I think they should be provided with some reasons exactly why not.

BarbaraofKent · 24/02/2021 19:30

Nice ratio!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2021 19:39

Ah, I see they are being told why not on the Twitter feed. Good.

Hear hear. Thank goodness. I needed this reassurance tonight.

As a pp implied, try doing the actual job rather than policing and forcing an ideology that clearly involves actual problems for more people than not?

I am not cisgender. Even taking that word as it stands I never have followed all the stereotypes marketing pushes. I am biologically female though and not so hoisted on my own self-importance that I must demand a special private language.

McDuffy · 24/02/2021 20:14

The ratio Grin
The one thing that gives me hope (on a day where I was unlucky enough to have sight of Stonewall's 31 page guide for employers on to how to impress their Stonewall overlords Confused) was that ratios like that are proving that the general public have no truck with this shit.

Its interesting that there seem to be as many men as women commenting on that tweet.

Oh wow, really McDuffy? Any highlights?

I only skimmed it as trying to protect my mental health a bit at the moment after a bereavement Sad and it wasn't good. Right at the start it said about being able to choose what bathroom aligned with their gender, Stonewall rewriting the law. It had so many working group targets and communications and surveys. So onerous and daunting! Is it worth its own thread do you think? Might be able to face a deep dive next week and take one for the team Confused

Sorry for your loss McDuffy Thanks only do it when and if you feel up to it but I for one would be interested and I'm sure others would.

Thank you Smile Dad was a big believer in fairness (not as much of a feminist as I'd have liked but he got points for being a sometime drinking buddy of Jenni Murray Grin) so I'll have a crack at it in his honour!
Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/02/2021 21:21

Here's to you and your dad WineThanks

PotholeParadies · 24/02/2021 21:45

Flowers Sorry for your loss.

Pace yourself and be very gentle with yourself. Bereavement is never easy, but the current situation exacerbates it so much.

Demonstrated by happily misgendering everyone they're stuffing that label on. I am not fucking 'cis'.

PicsInRed · 24/02/2021 22:18

Well, I think we can all agree that that went well for them. 😂

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/02/2021 22:20

And the only responses to people stating 'I don't want to be called cis, I don't agree with that label' are the playground name calling and jeering. It makes it very clear what utter bullshit #bekind or any pretense of inclusion is.

I'm afraid my response is that if you're going to insist on using labels for me that you know I don't like, find offensive and don't identify with, then I'm going to insist on using my chosen labels for you, and they are going to be sex based. Either we both respect each other's feelings and sense of identity or neither of us do.

PotholeParadies · 24/02/2021 22:28

👏👏👏

That is the crux of it.

The moment you realise you're maybe not comfortable with being called 'cis' or 'trans', you're then forced to notice (by reality) that no-one is interested in respecting your identity. Bit of a headscratcher, that one.

PotholeParadies · 24/02/2021 23:16

Piers Morgan has found it.

They're screwed with that ratio now.
