Thanks for sharing this. Interesting to read.

‘Imagine a program about women that didn’t talk to a single one’

You mean like the conversations about what defines a woman that women weren’t invited to?
Or the places in women’s sports, board positions, political positions, women’s lists that have gone to males?
Or maybe like the discussion on reproductive health in America that didn’t include a single woman?

No women can’t possibly imagine a world in which women are discussed without a seat at the table or a voice in the conversation.

Gcnq · 24/02/2021 16:18

If you were trans then you trans back surely you're still a "trans voice"

DeaconBoo · 24/02/2021 16:19

So they're assuming Emily Maitlis is 'cisgender'?
Has Emily actually announced that or are they making assumptions about her gender identity here?

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 24/02/2021 16:34

Newsnight only spoke to two people, one of whom was a claimant in the case.

Maybe Susie Green should have stepped aside.

Someone said on another thread... If you don't have a seat at the table, you are on the menu

sounds a like two for one deal to me

Well, exactly.

Totally...

I wonder if she also contacted Mermaids to complain that they sent Susie Green instead of an actual trans person?

Or should the BBC have had Keira up against 2 pro trans voices, is that her point?

Keira is incredible and should get far more coverage than she does.

I'm surprised the BBC took this stance but would not be surprised if someone more woke comes along to apologise soon.

Also Scotland has decided to ignore the judge's ruling from Keira's case and "trans kids" are still at risk here today.

gardenbird48 · 25/02/2021 10:48

Did you see the embedded headline for an article ‘to read more’

‘Puberty Blockers were life saving for my daughter - all young people deserve a shot at happiness’.

I’m not sure how the two halves of that sentence relate to each other?? It raises several contentious points.

perpetualnamechanger · 25/02/2021 11:27

That article is written by Susie Green!

Very sneaky, reminds me of when ITV covered the outcome of Keira's case, gave her 2 mins coverage then followed by a long interview other 2 positive trans stories, a real wtf moment.

UppityPuppity · 25/02/2021 11:43

Puberty Blockers were life saving for my daughter - all young people deserve a shot at happiness

She needs to believe this... otherwise how could she live with what she has done?

WhatyoutalkingaboutWillis · 26/05/2021 20:08

8 days to go for Crowd funding! A fair bit of digging needed.

NiceGerbil · 26/05/2021 20:11

But Keira had a trans identity and arguably having detransitioned is a doubly informed source.

highame · 27/05/2021 08:30

I believe I read somewhere that a department at the BBC to do with programmes has a high percentage of trans. One hopes that in the interests of impartiality, this will change

Imnobody4 · 27/05/2021 08:47

Wes Streeting quote "We need to hear more from trans people about their lived experiences.” I hope he's including hearing more from detransitioners as well.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/07/2021 18:07

My goodness I think that recent one is the first time I have ever seen a complaint to the BBC upheld!

OhHolyJesus · 12/07/2021 18:40

You're right, from a diversity staff report from a few years ago. The department is commissioning, so those who decide what programmes to commission to be created or pursued.

Like say Ru Paul's Drag Race or Pose for example, as well as your Sunday night drama. They wouldn't decide regular programming like Eastenders or Newsnight.

That's the awful one by Ben Hunte isn't it? Fab to see it upheld.
