Kirsty Blackman, an SNP MP who has been very critical of Joanna Cherry and GC feminism has put out a tweet demonstrating she has completely misunderstood the two sides of the argument:

"I am a woman, I live as a woman, and I dress however I like... That's why when we hear 'Gender Critical' individuals talking about 'proper women' or 'real women' I am gravely worried"

The comments are amazing.

@Cailleach1

Blether is blather in Scots, isn't it? What are you blathering on about?

It is not appreciative. Like a clucking hen.

No it isn't. It's just chatting. It has nothing to do with blathering or clucking hens

And btw, the noise clucking hens make is rather lovely.

PotholeParadies · 23/02/2021 15:31

What I always come back to here is, do these people struggle with animals?

Do they think there is an entire world out there in which farmers sorrowfully tell each other, "yeah I misassigned the gender of five calves last year. Couldn't work out why they weren't getting pregnant. Had to have them karyotyped by a specialist. Turned out they were very small bulls.

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/02/2021 15:43

@Sexnotgender

So embarrassed for her.

For those hard of thinking.

THE ONLY REQUIREMENT FOR BEING A WOMAN IS TO BE AN ADULT HUMAN FEMALE.

Couldn’t give a shit how you dress, whether you wear makeup or not, what shoes you wear etc.

Oh she struggles with the word 'female' too.

Actually, if you want to see how batshit she is on twitter, you can do a very specific search.

from:KirstySNP female will give you every tweet of hers containing the word 'female'. Sometimes (when it suits her) she will use the dictionary definition. At other times (when it suits her) she will use the Stonewall definition.

Kotatsu · 23/02/2021 16:13

This is the problem with twitter of course, and why they're trying to suggest you read articles before responding, if you don't actually engage, you get a totally ridiculous idea of what feminism is.

A bit like so many men I know who hear any woman expressing an opinion, and bunch it in with 'feminism' and 'you asked for it, you got it' whether it is actually feminism or not. All they hear is 'not me'

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 16:23

Oh, dear. There's no hope for someone being so wilfuly obtuse.

Amazing that she managed somehow to work out how to produce children.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 16:32

How does one 'present as a bloke' and 'live as a bloke'? Can someone give me a definition, because I'm sitting here with short hair and trousers on and thinking maybe all this time I've been one without realising it. I don't know how I'm going to break it to the kids.

Transwomen are adult human females? How does she work that out? In order to be a transwoman you have to be male. So males are now females?

Amazing that she managed somehow to work out how to produce children.

Since her husband is as female as she is, how did they decide which of them would get pregnant?

Datun · 23/02/2021 16:53

If transwomen are adult human females, what the hell definition is she using for female? Because it cant be of or denoting the sex who bear eggs. Can it?

She is asserting that you can't tell a person's sex, whilst simultaneously asserting that you absolutely can, and it's the opposite one to the one you think. Because reasons.

It's clearly more necessary for her to mouth nonsensical words than it is to retain a shred of credibility.

Kotatsu · 23/02/2021 16:54

I have asked this so many times. If we want a third child, how do I make sure it's dp that grows it, not me!

Thingybob · 23/02/2021 16:57

I often wonder if many of the TWAW crowd actually can't tell the difference (or not very easily) between men and women. Perhaps they are not very good at reading facial features, bone structure, body shape and posture to determine sex and instead use things like dress and hair styles to sort males from females?

I'm sure the majority on here will think my hypothesis is ridiculous but it would explain why so many are adamant there is no clear demarcation between men and women.

Could it be similiar to someone who is blue-yellow colour blind being unable to distinguish between green and blue?

Does anyone know of any research on the ability to correctly identify sex as I couldn't find anything

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 16:58

Kirsty Blackman there showing no respect for any faith that forbids women to be around men in many situations, especially going to the loo.

Showing no respect for survivors of abuse and rape.

Showing no respect for people with disabilities who will find many being forced to use the disabled loos as a result of the above.

No respect for the elderly or vulnerable in hospital or care homes who want their personal care to be guaranteed.

Doesn't she realise all this "clever" smoke and mirrors argument framing anyone who queries this as "being obsessed with inspecting genitals or chromosomes" is all lies and breaks every safeguarding code by smudging and blurring lines?

She also really doesn't get that using that argument for trans is offensive for those who have a difference of sexual development (intersex). As they're the ones who shouldn't be being policed by their chromosomes or genitals.

Datun · 23/02/2021 16:59

I cant imagine what must be going through Maya's head after that exchange.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 17:02

Anyhoo, Peer David Pannick, considered a legal mastermind, really doesn't agree with her position.

God, I'd love that. I'd massage his ankles and everything. I might suggest it later.
ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 17:18

So, what Blackman is saying is that the ONLY way we know if someone is male or female is either how they are 'presenting' - presumably this is hairstyle, clothing - or them telling you their pronouns? Just wanted to check.

To be fair, she is one of the very few TRAs whom I've seen actually willing to discuss the issue and attempt a definition. She's just saying the quiet parts out loud, really.

PotholeParadies · 23/02/2021 17:38

Thingybob

Not something I know about in detail but looking into prosopagnosia (face-blindness) could be useful. I have it to a mild extent, which means I use tactics like location (blonde-lady-in-my-street=Samantha, blonde-lady-at-work=Clara), gait and so on. I don't struggle with detecting sex in RL, just which bloke/woman you are. It is a common comorbid condition with being on the autism spectrum.

Perhaps more severe cases do struggle with distinguishing sex?

Thingybob · 23/02/2021 17:54

Thanks for your response Pothole and it's good to hear that you have strategies to cope. I used to know someone with a similiar condition who met with me every week for a couple of years, always in the same location, but if ever bumped into him on the street he wouldn't recognise me.

To me being 'sex blind' is the only reasonable explanation for what I see as illogical arguments from the trans lobby. I fail to see how they could possibly be so consistent if their view of the world and sex was the same as mine.

OldCrone · 23/02/2021 18:05

I often get the impression that many TRAs don't actually understand what they are supporting. And in Kirsty's case, she doesn't even seem up to speed with her own party's policies.

Another tweet from Kirsty:

twitter.com/KirstySNP/status/1363954853119201281

Who has proposed changes to GRA that mean that "any male who says he's a woman" is a woman?

And, even if they did, which they're not...

Well, the Scottish Government have proposed this. Her party. They have proposed a change in the law so that all someone has to do to change their legally recognised sex is sign a declaration saying that they intend to live as the opposite sex for the rest of their life. What does she think that means? Because to me it means that any man who is willing to sign such a statement can legally be recognised as a woman. Does she not understand this?

I'd like to ask her (and any other MP/SMP of her viewpoint) the following:

Hypothetically speaking do you think it's possible for a Transwoman to rape a Woman?

If you answer yes, then do you accept that a TW can have a penis? An organ that is the sole preserve of men?

If you answer no, then do you both accept and approve the logical consequence is that no TW could be convicted of rape and "only" sexual assault?

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 23/02/2021 18:50

Thingybob I'm so poor at facial recognition that I once failed to recognise my own mother, because I saw her in a place that I didn't expect too. I also really struggled to pick out Dd2 on school photos during primary school,as she had an almost identical ( to me) friend in the same class.
I have never failed to distinguish someone's sex though.

WarriorN · 23/02/2021 19:08

Has anyone asked her the staniland question?

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 19:11

Crikey. What does she think self ID is, if not exactly '"any male who says he's a woman" is a woman?' - that is literally it!
