@SapphosRock

Oh I so wanted to support this site I thought it looked great.

Why why why why are they centring trans issues by featuring an interview with dysphoric young boys from the (very straight) Posie Parker? How is this gay and lesbian news?

So disappointed 😞

I have to say although I like PP and her activism I did think this was a misstep, especially for the launch edition.

That's not to say there was anything wrong with the quality of the article and maybe if they were well established it would matter less but optics are important when there's bound to be scrutiny anyway.

I don't think they should have included Debbie Hayton for the same reasons.

That said it's not my publication so they can do as they please and I think the overall quality of many of the articles makes up for it. There was some interesting stuff on there.

SapphosRock · 21/02/2021 18:32

Exactly @OvaHere

Why include content from trans people or straight people who are (allegedly) homophobic when there are so many excellent gay and lesbian writers? It's a strange decision.

Re Posie Parker - for someone so passionate about women's spaces, it really feels like she is encroaching on a space where she doesn't belong. Having her write for a lesbian and gay news site seems as nonsensical as having an article from Boris Johnson on there.

I was interested to read about how brutish "locker room culture" and violent bullying of gentle boys is still rife in American schools. I had no idea that it was still so prevalent, not after all the pontificating I've heard about "zero tolerance" for bullying, and prioritising the needs of the child. Yet it turns out that effeminate boys are still being tormented, while adults wilfully turn a blind eye, or even join in the persecution.

I didn't mind that the information came to me via Kelly-Jay Keen listening to the concerns of American parents, whose little gay sons are being convinced that they are really girls, and that hormones and horrendous surgeries will magically transform them into females. That was the perspective that made me feel the article belonged on a lesbian and gay news site. I hope they will continue to source their content from a wide variety of different viewpoints.

As a lesbian I haven't given much thought to boys being pushed into dangerous and irreversible treatments. Though I have long been concerned about the relentless torrents of transgenderist propaganda aimed at butch women.

Here's an example from Grahem Linehans webchat with the two founders of LGB Alliance Ireland, Ceri and Lauren

It takes my breath away that people can lay claim to being inclusive, progressive and kind and yet get away with telling butch lesbians they need to stop sitting on the fence, go get their tits removed and a dick attached. It breaks my heart to see baby butches being convinced that they need to identify as men, and damage their healthy bodies, before they've had a chance to grow into the powerful women that they were destined to be.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 22/02/2021 21:34

I've heard people say that they don't want to colonise the site by signing up for a subscription without having any homosexual tendencies.

Luckily it is now possible to show support in other ways. I like to think people will send them a few bob every time Pink News publishes one of their particularly mendacious twists on a current event.

Is this connected to LGB Alliance?

TheLaughingGenome · 22/02/2021 22:26

Just having a read. Thank you for the link.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 23/02/2021 00:25

Is this connected to LGB Alliance?

Only in the way that it is another sign of homosexuals becoming unsatisfied with the organisations that are supposed to work for them.

The LGB Alliance was forced to form after Stonewall betrayed lesbians and gay men by redefining homoSEXuality as same GENDER orientation and silencing any dissent with accusations of transphobia and bigotry.

I believe that the need for a Lesbian and Gay News outlet, publishing news for people who still believe in biological reality, was floated after the savage and sustained attack on Boyz magazine, when the co founder and editor committed the unpardonable sin of suggesting that their readership might like to tune in to an LGB Alliance webinar and hear them out, before forming their own opinions.

You can read about the fall out here www.spiked-online.com/2021/01/29/the-witch-hunting-of-boyz-magazine/

I suspect it may have been a spark from that dumpster fire that kindled Lesbian and Gay News.

Perhaps the people running Boyz realised that there were a lot of lesbians, gays and bisexuals whose media interests were not being met? A lot of us no longer feel at home in the organisations we set up and nurtured. Perhaps they calculate that there might still be enough of us bio realists around to make starting a news outlet catering to us economically viable?

For the moment I'm just revelling in all the interesting articles, and dipping a cautious toe into the members conversation area, wondering if there might be any lesbian gardeners around who fancy a stimulating chat about the seeds they plan on sowing this year, what they do with their compost heaps and if they are into the joys of mulching. Trusting that any lesbians who do reply will be cunty women like myself.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 23/02/2021 07:07

I suspect it may have been a spark from that dumpster fire that kindled Lesbian and Gay News.

I admit that this thought gives me a great deal of satisfaction. Their bullying and nastiness helped spur the creation of a great new source of information and support for LGB people.
Bet they're all fuming Grin

King al, that link.
TRAs are not only trying to remove women's rights but they're also active in silencing an HIV awareness campaign aimed at gay men - something gay men are especially vulnerable to... and during a pandemic!

NonnyMouse1337 · 28/02/2021 08:20

Reviving the thread to say Lesbian and Gay News are running a crowdfunder to help with establishing the service in the longer term. Link on their website. Smile

PurpleHoodie · 28/02/2021 09:57

Thanks for the link (and bumps).

Looks like a great read so far Star

Iamhangingin · 28/02/2021 14:06

I've signed up and have also been checking out the members area although I have nothing sensible to say about mulch (?? I have no idea what mulch is but it doesn't sound nice!)

I can understand people being disappointed that there were so many trans related articles however I was on a webinar with the LGB Alliance where the question was is trans a gay issue (I thought it wasn't) but hearing the speakers I think for many gay people it is so I'm not unhappy with them including these articles. I know they want to pay writers a fair wage but I assume for the launch a lot of contributors were doing so for free/lower rate. I really enjoyed the articles looking back at lesbian activisms would be nice to see some lifestyle content for a bit of frivolous fun. Or cartoons....

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 01/03/2021 22:14

Mulch is lovely, it provides nutrients, prevents soil erosion and evaporation, and keeps weeds down. Mulch is the lazy gardener's friend.

The word you absolutely DO NOT want to search for is felching. A person who manages to live their entire life without knowing what that means is a happier person than those who have eaten from the tree of knowledge.

Good thinking, I'm definitely up for donating to their crowdfunder.

DisgustedofManchester · 02/03/2021 12:26

Its nearly all anti trans articles though. There's very little for Lesbian and Gay people on there. I assume they are crowdfunding as well?

Is it hell.
JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 03/03/2021 06:40

They're only anti-trans if you define gay and lesbian people's right to same sex attraction and their opposition to conversion therapy as anti-trans. Otherwise, no.

DisgustedofManchester · 03/03/2021 13:50

Lets look at the stories then

"Why do we need more consultaion on the GRA"
Posie Parker on "sensitive boys want to be girls" ( not a lesbian last tie I checked )
"Talking about Gender Markers" Opening sentence includes "bottom surgery"
"Bell vs Tavistock " 'nuff said
"Lost Lesbians in the Census" - about translesbians
Allison Bailey Case - about refusing to recognise trans women
"Dysphoric - Fleeing Womanhood" - trans men are just lesbians ( even if they are gay trans men ?)
LGB Fight back ( already recognised as a hate group against trans people )
James Dreyfus ... talking about gay men? No, trans people and women of course. A lot of men seem to have an opinion for women these days.
Kathleen Stock ... Need I say anything?
First woman in GLF - LGB Alliance founder - see above, and so many inaccuracies in there as well.
Lesbians meeting Translesbians
Keira Bell ... again
Rosie Duffield - anti trans and anti gay marriage ironically though not mentioned
Get the L out - anti trans women wmovement
Rose of Dawn says trans activists don’t speak for her

Many of the writers are not even Gay or Lesbian and some are anti - gay marrage but then again LGB Alliance seems to be actually anti gay rights also as it campaigns for Clause 28 2021!

Seriously, its aligned with LGB Alliance and focuses on being anti-trans. It does this by almost entirely focusing on how it affects cisgender women as well. So lost of men writing about women's lives and how they should live them and think. I've had enough of that personally.

17thEarlOfOxford · 03/03/2021 14:18

Another example of "anti trans" just meaning "opinions I don't like".

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 14:28

@17thEarlOfOxford

Another example of "anti trans" just meaning "opinions I don't like".
And a hefty dose of hyperbole. It's not "nearly all", is it?...how far did Disgusted look? And the comment about Clause 28 2021 is ludicrous.
TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 03/03/2021 14:34

So lost of men writing about women's lives and how they should live them and think. I've had enough of that personally.

I’ve always assumed your biological sex to be male, Disgusted.

Always read you as one of the many, many biologically male people telling biologically female people how we should live and think.

Is it not like that at all, after all?

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 03/03/2021 14:54

Every single one of those examples references an article either where gay men or lesbians are standing up for their rights to be same-sex attracted, or against the abuse of gay men and lesbians, or is discussing the need for gender non-conforming children to be allowed to grow up without pressure to conform to stereotypes.
Gay people have the right to call out homophobia when they see it, no matter who the homophobes are.

SapphosRock · 03/03/2021 15:24

discussing the need for gender non-conforming children to be allowed to grow up without pressure to conform to stereotypes

You really think a heterosexual woman who openly said that ' women who call themselves men should be sterilised' is best placed to write that article? Really?

Much of it is not gay and lesbian news at all. Shame as it could have been excellent.

OvaHere · 26/09/2021 09:00

Bumping this as they could do with some digging. They've had a lot of interesting and thoughtful articles since their launch.
