Breast feeding support group ... or is it??

This exchange is disturbing but would explain a lot. I feel for any sleep deprived new mums - creepy messages would be the last thing you would expect!

(Sorry to post and run - not in the UK and just going to bed)

Re-attaching, hopefully a bit clearer this time

They are SELLING access to vulnerable new mothers?!

This is so far over the line, you can't see the line. I feel sick.

2BthatUnnoticed · 18/02/2021 14:24

Yes, and the whole point of private groups is (supposed to be) to avoid and weed out creepy behaviour!

Sorry what?

A Facebook breastfeeding group is being paid by men to give them access to breastfeeding mothers, and a moderator who was messaged by a creepy man with a fake profile pointed this out to an admin and was told to ignore the men, because they had 'paid good money' to access the women. Then the complainant had her mod status removed for complaining?

Did I get that right?

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/02/2021 14:34

That is absolutely revolting. Thanks for the heads up.

lionheart · 18/02/2021 19:00

I'm so glad you posted about this.

Those unsuspecting women have been sold out in order to give fetishists access.

Datun · 18/02/2021 19:07

That's prostitution, surely? Unwitting prostitution at that.

That's abuse. It's a crime.

Thelnebriati · 18/02/2021 19:08

The admin is selling access to the group and also ignoring sexual harassment by the men who purchase access.

Datun · 18/02/2021 19:14

Do people usually have to spend money to join an online Facebook group?

Is it Facebook? Something not right here.

Thelnebriati · 18/02/2021 19:18

Its a private arrangement between the perverts and admin.

Datun · 18/02/2021 19:25

@Thelnebriati

Its a private arrangement between the perverts and admin.
So why be so upfront about it? It's so incriminating.
Thelnebriati · 18/02/2021 19:27

IDK but I hope there's legal action as a result.

iPhonie · 18/02/2021 19:27

That’s disgusting. I’ve been in a few breastfeeding groups & I’m mortified if this goes on Shock

Delphinium20 · 18/02/2021 19:36

WTH?!?

An admin rescinded a mod's role because the mod asked not to be abused?!?!?

OvaHere · 18/02/2021 19:37

Is this real? Where did the screenshots originate from?

Nothing would particularly shock me now but I want to be cautious about accepting everything on face value.

ShulamithFirestone · 18/02/2021 19:38

Something doesn't quite ring true about it to me. Although that could just be wishful thinking. To be honest, I wouldn't put it past some men to do that sort of thing. Their depravity literally knows no bounds.

ArabellaScott · 18/02/2021 19:57

I just had a look and can't see any group of that name on fb. There are various posts showing that image, OP, but I am not sure it is real.

BraveBananaBadge · 18/02/2021 20:01

I'm suspicious of the whole thing too. But I've seen this posted on another breastfeeding support group today, where a member commented it was a group they were also in and it has now been taken down. A cursory search, and that seems that might be the case? All a bit odd, though.

PotholeParadies · 18/02/2021 20:58

I've got a google cache for the group.

A group by that name definitely existed and was deleted very recently.

Why is it surprising? Wasn't it just a few months ago when a trans woman joined a pregnancy group wanting to experience a mock stillbirth, and the ladies in the group humoured them?

I know that the breastfeeding group in question did exist, or at least it did a couple of years ago.

SaveMySkin · 19/02/2021 00:00

wtf Shock

SaveMySkin · 19/02/2021 00:03

and double Shock Shock to Kettlingur's comment

PumpkinChai · 19/02/2021 00:06

We discussed this on our antenatal groupchat and a few pointed out that it is fake, it's a disgruntled ex group mod that created it and then spread it.

Was shocked at first and horrified. But then it does come across fake because why would you openly admit that set up?

The group has since suspended all action until things quiten down and I should imagine they've made themselves completely private so no one is able to send them abuse or messages from perverts thinking it's real.

lionheart · 19/02/2021 01:00

That's interesting.

I guess the point is that you really don't know for sure who is online and why.

2BthatUnnoticed · 19/02/2021 05:11

Barracker yes that is my understanding.

A friend shared it in our WhatsApp group, having received it from her mother’s group. I thought it was real but cannot say for sure - apologies, should have mentioned this upfront.

I was in the group in 2014-2015, as my son was born with a tongue tie which made feeding a struggle. But I haven’t been on FB for a while, and a bit out of the loop.

It is a bit odd... why wouldn’t “Melanie” just remove that moderator without making the incriminating comment?

It is also now on Reddit with 60k views and 2,300 comments. Skimming through, I found somewhat of an update (circled in yellow - again though, I am not in the group so please take with a grain of salt)
