Thanks for the link, I've requested a paper copy.
What is the benefit of doing a paper version please?

MaudTheInvincible · 28/02/2021 17:00

All the details about the protest are on the sex in the Census campaign website posted by EightiesRobot. I've taken a couple of screenshots.

The campaign is to register a protest without damaging the quality of the data collected any further than it will be if the ONS's planned guidance goes live.

This was where I found out about the link: https://twitter.com/WomansPlacee_UK/status/1365983028783284224?s=20

Bumping.

This is really important.

You can send in a letter of protest at them effectively dropping biological sex from the census.
BoeotianNightmare · 28/02/2021 18:19

Did anyone reach a conclusion on how best to answer the gender identity question if you do not feel you have one?

Xanthangum · 28/02/2021 18:21

Ignore it completely, and add the template letter as an extra submission I think

EightiesRobot · 28/02/2021 18:43

The gender identity question is optional. Better to ignore.

Cwenthryth · 28/02/2021 19:03

I started another thread to discuss responding to the gender identity question (it’s gone quiet but feel free to bump!!!)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4175161-If-you-don-t-have-a-gender-identity-how-to-answer-the-census?msgid=105047865#105047865

A lot of people feel ignoring it is best.... as I’ve explained/explored on there I’m not convinced - I feel that those of us who reject gender have been excluded from the design of the question from the start and to ignore it is to go along with that exclusion. I intend to answer it but have not decided the wording yet to make my position clear.

Xanthangum · 28/02/2021 19:17

Going good. Loving someone's 'nonsensus' comment

Is the template letter short enough to be easily handwritten? (no access to printer during lockdown)

I don’t think they’ve released the template letter yet, but I think the important thing will be the inclusion of the letter and a few sentences summing up the sentiment so I’m sure a handwritten version will be fine.
BingBongSong · 01/03/2021 12:07

I hope that they make it!

Dug again.

AbsintheFriends · 01/03/2021 12:26

I've ordered a paper copy. Thanks for the info and links

TheHoneyBadger · 01/03/2021 19:11

I've ordered paper so I can write I do not have a gender identity I have a sex with gender bollocks projected onto it. Or some such.

I noticed my union's latest questionnaire had a long list of options under sex recently Hmm It's everywhere

Xanthangum · 02/03/2021 09:05

Bumping, on the basis that I did a little more digging this morning.

drwitch · 02/03/2021 09:09

More shennanigans from the ONS

FPFW could do with emailing the people who consented to receive emails from them in re: the crowdfunder.

I'm a little taken aback that they didn't anticipate this and what the legal opinion is.

Gonescone · 02/03/2021 09:21

Just donated again to this. This is so important.

drwitch · 02/03/2021 09:32

@EmbarrassingAdmissions they have emailed us Smile
I think the battle (with the census) is probably lost, but if the JR goes our way that we might win the war. I think the case will show a) the importance of accurate sex based data and b) the petty corruption of organisations wanting to get blokia points

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/03/2021 09:38

I haven't had the email in that case.

I, too, think the Census outcome will reveal that the ONS has out-manoeuvred those opposing it (hardly surprising).

I would like to think the JR has a positive outcome, I'm despairing at the likely cost of it.

Datun · 02/03/2021 09:48

The problem with the ONS manipulating the situation so the Census goes ahead regardless, is that they will be accused of a lack of integrity in their data at every turn, thereafter.

Even if certain questions asked have indeed fact based answers, the knowledge that they determinedly engineered a situation where some answers are not, makes them look totally dodgy and ideologically driven.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/03/2021 09:48

I am hoping the court will indicate that it is not entirely happy the the ONS’s behaviour. That will give ammunition for us to raise complaints include asking if the Nolan principles have been breached.

Part of the problem we have been facing is the intense pressure the aggressive TRA have placed on some organisations. It’s been easier for organisations to roll back on women’s rights than to stand for a balanced approach. Now the women are pushing back hard and you can see the cracks appearing. Organisations have no sound justification for their behaviour other than, we didn’t want to get shouted at. Unfortunately the only option we now have is to make the impact of ignoring women’s rights painful enough that they stop doing it. If that means that we have to call for individual resignations if the judge is critical of the ONS’s behaviour so be it.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/03/2021 09:53

Agreed. The lack of integrity and transparency at a time when we have an infodemic of misinformation and disinformation will undermine their otherwise outstanding achievements during this pandemic. It will taint their reputation in a way that will harm them in the future. And it won't be enough.

It’s been easier for organisations to roll back on women’s rights than to stand for a balanced approach.

If only WEP or any large women's organisation had not been captured - why were there no women's representatives with enough clout to give the ONS pause to consider the relative power bases and other issues?

drwitch · 02/03/2021 10:11

See I dispute the idea that this should be only decided by the relative weight of various interest groups. This is what got ONS into this mess. After all other trans interest groups in other country lobby for a sex registered/assigned at birth coupled with a GI question (this is what the canada census is doing actually). -
