50:50 Parliament Campaign to Encourage Women in Politics now have TWO Transwomen on the Panel

I saw 50:50 women tweet to Sue Pascoe Chair of the Conservative Women’s Organisation some time ago on their #askhertostand, but then I couldn’t find the tweet and thought maybe they’d realised their mistake (can you guess?) and deleted it.

However, how wrong I was! There are now two people that have extremely limited ‘lived experience’ as a female (Sue was a married father and successful businessman and Master to Foxhounds until a few years ago). The other person has said hi on here recently.

I don’t mean to be rude but surely the whole point of encouraging women to stand for Parliament is to help overcome the barriers women face in entering politics. Any barriers that trans people face are rather different. It is also interesting that on a panel of three for their ‘Encouraging LGBT+ Women to Stand’ campaign, there us only one person with actual lived experience of being a woman (I am hoping that Mandu Reid of the WEP was born female at least...??)

Robin is dubious about women's rights under the EA2010, it seems.

I'm not convinced that Robin is bringing much to the party where women & our interests are concerned.

Why do males find it impossible to hear women saying NO?"

It's a no from me, too.

What are you going to 'learn' from that, Robin?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it won't have anything to do with 'listening'.

why not just have a campaign for LGBT+ people? It would be perfectly reasonable for you to be a representative of such a group

Well quite.

Robin- you really cannot represent women as you will never be one.

This is appalling . A complete joke . There are no parties I could vote for now . I fear for my daughter's future .

A cautionary tale for all women, especially the enablers.

Oh Christ, that's almost funny, in a really dark way.

It's a brave new world.

It's almost like a drama exercise. We chat for a few minutes, then speak on behalf of someone else to prove how well we've been paying attention to them. We never get to speak for ourselves. Except, in the case of women, we don't get to speak for someone else either.

And this is real life, not a game. Sex matters.

My view is that we all need to listen to each other to understand how we can make progress together.

Are you the one who suggested that if a TW and a woman/TM have a baby, the TW - adult male - should take maternity leave and the mother giving birth should be back at work after 2 weeks?

Is this what you mean as progress and leaning from each other?

Dripping with entitlement.

It would be a bit like using the disabled character from Little Britain to speak to an audience of people with disabilities to inspire them to achieve.

Utter nonsense.

Cast iron bullshit. Posting for the deletion message about being nice and pretending we don't notice this sort of egregious, manipulative and deceitful crap happening in full view of everyone.

From RMW's article.

What this means is that, yes you can discriminate on gender reassignment (gender identity) for the purposes of single-sex spaces, but it has to be a “proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim”. Gender Criticals have often tried to conflate this with the notion that “We’re uncomfortable! That’s legitimate!”

Except of course, it is not.

And

They have also tried to claim that the act describes “protecting dignity” as a legitimate aim, which indeed it does. However, protecting dignity is rather fuzzy notion.

Again, the racial segregationists argued that it was undignified for black people to share space with white people; indeed any abhorrent argument can be made in the name of protecting dignity

Robin, in light of the above, how can you possibly say "My view is that we all need to listen to each other to understand how we can make progress together."?

Progress? Women being comfortable in their own spaces and wanting their dignity protected gets described as fuzzy, illegitimate, abhorrent?

Your attitude towards women couldn't be less progressive.

Which is why women everywhere are saying no.

And argued there was not enough time yet is here posting on MN about how wonderful it is to be able to provide ‘consultancy’ services to women on how to get ahead it seems.

Note: I call it consultancy because the pitch last night felt exactly like that of a consultant. Someone outside the group who can come in and point out areas to improve and maybe work ‘with’ us to get there. (Nothing against consultants at all as that is their role)

Certainly interested in what the consultancy panel presenting to inspire LBGT women to participate in politics have to say. I think the representation of women on that panel probably says it all.

And that a panel member does not see the issue is pretty much laying it out for any women who might not have seen the issue previously.

Has anyone suggested yet that 50:50 be renamed 2:1?

As someone about to head off on maternity leave I'll be really interested in how Sue and Robin handled the impact on their careers of having children. What's that? Oh they got adult human females to do the tricky biological bit whilst their careers continued unimpeded? I knew there was somewhere I was going wrong...

Laverne Cox also stated being uncomfortable wasn’t legitimate as well, in an article on the weekend. It seems to be a common theme. “WE aren’t dangerous, so what are you complaining about?”

Males who don’t care about how uncomfortable they make my teenage daughters with their presence and who show so little empathy are the last group of people I want anywhere near them, whether dangerous or not.

WTF? Women have to minimise their feelings to make way for male feelings?

Report
Winesalot · 16/02/2021 08:15

Now, if the males on the panel were there to encourage transwomen to get into politics as transwomen then yes! GReat. But I never see the point being raised to have a proportionate representation of transpeople in boards, on any panel, etc.

It only ever seems to be transwomen being promoted as spokespeople for women on women’s issues. Strange that. Males speaking for women is seen as progressive again. And those who support it just can’t see the irony and the hypocrisy.

jigsawaddict · 16/02/2021 08:18

@RobinMoiraWhite it's a NO from me too.

Let's put it the other way...

A woman decides to transition to male. Can she ever talk about challenges / experiences which she has NEVER personally faced?

No. Nope. No way. Never.

Sure, she can talk about HER experiences and challenges as a LGQT+ person, but she will never be able to relate and speak about MEN'S challenges, simply because she has no idea.

No idea.

Read that again.

And yet you have the audacity to not only take away another woman's voice, but to come here and justify it.

Please, give your head a wobble.

Report
BaronessWrongCrowd · 16/02/2021 08:21

If one can not empathise with women, then how on earth does someone born male believe that they can represent them?

I want someone who will fight my corner, who shares common ground with me because of our sex. Not because they feel entitled to be there.

why not set up a campaign to get more tw into politics? i'll be on the panel if you like. ive had struggles too.

instead a campaign to get more women into politics has a panel with two men who merely identify as women and we're meant to sit back and listen to you and all your struggles?

Grin

no.

It’s so tedious, isn’t it? The difficulties faced by actual women are clearly to be ignored on the grounds that they aren’t shared by born-males, as those particular born-males think they are the same as women in all essentials.
