50:50 Parliament Campaign to Encourage Women in Politics now have TWO Transwomen on the Panel

I saw 50:50 women tweet to Sue Pascoe Chair of the Conservative Women’s Organisation some time ago on their #askhertostand, but then I couldn’t find the tweet and thought maybe they’d realised their mistake (can you guess?) and deleted it.

However, how wrong I was! There are now two people that have extremely limited ‘lived experience’ as a female (Sue was a married father and successful businessman and Master to Foxhounds until a few years ago). The other person has said hi on here recently.

I don’t mean to be rude but surely the whole point of encouraging women to stand for Parliament is to help overcome the barriers women face in entering politics. Any barriers that trans people face are rather different. It is also interesting that on a panel of three for their ‘Encouraging LGBT+ Women to Stand’ campaign, there us only one person with actual lived experience of being a woman (I am hoping that Mandu Reid of the WEP was born female at least...??)

Its actually quite something that Ed Davie got the nod ovet Layla Moran tbh. But the wider grass roots membership do not tend to reflect the more involved internal membership of the groups that run the party.

A lot of the older LibDems are watching and waiting for this whole jenga tower to topple, I think @redtoothBrush

My experience is they don't give a fuck and think its not a big deal...

I've had a number if run ins with local councillors over it. They don't care. By their own admission they have a problem with male pale and stale and they think this is the 'solution'.

@Winesalot

You can get anti-blister socks??? That is amazing.
Someone recommended them when I started running, they’re bloody brilliant. The ones I use are Hilly twin skins.

I suppose lesbians would know about breaking in comfy shoes.

This has been one of the most interesting threads in ages. I wasn't in the mood for contributing much yesterday but have loved the responses.

I use Thousand Mile socks. Brilliant. My dad put me onto them. They are double layer socks so any rubbing is between the two layers of sock not your skin.

What a lot of sunlight this thread has shed.
The fact that #nodebate isn't working has ramped up the tensions dramatically. An ideology that depends on overturning fundamental laws of science and biology while removing legal rights from other groups has to be enforced - it is the only way to get populations to comply with what they know is untrue.
There's a reason that the judiciary, the police and education have been targeted so intensively.

Ordered. No idea they even existed.

They had the opposite effect for me - worst blisters ever! I found experimenting with how tight I laced the trainers was more effective.

I'm blocked from viewing every single one of Jaz's Twitter accounts, despite having had zero interaction with them - hadn't even heard of them before their appearance on this thread. I actually tweet very rarely, mainly just like stuff by people I follow (eg Jane Clare Jones, Kathleen Stock, Woman's Place) so Jaz is presumably using a t*rf blocker list and isn't remotely interested in engaging in any kind of meaningful discussion with women. Just who you want on a parliamentary campaign to encourage women into politics 🙄

Justhadathought · 17/02/2021 11:16

Political fuckwits who are more into disinformation and social media than engaging with real world views

This is really at the root of most of this 'stuff'. Living via social media and on-line gaming creates utterly detached and imaginal worlds, devoid of contact with earthly reality. Where you can really be whichever character you fancy creating. And the world just 'likes' and validates in response.

Datun · 17/02/2021 11:17

No time to rft, but this, exactly. Also...the fucking brass neck of someone knowing they are taking a place from a woman, which is completely against the whole point of the 50/50 initiative and doing it anyway.
Says it all.

Indeed. Excluding women in the name of women's inclusion. All on a par really.

I thought I was on every Terfblocker going (guilt by association only, I don't actually tweet much) but Jaz must be using a substandard one.
BoreOfWhabylon · 17/02/2021 11:22

Gah!
I'm not actually signed in to Twitter. Presumably that's why I can still see it all.

The LD terfblocker was a Challenor creation, iirc.

Me too, here in my local council wards. They are utterly impenetrable or amenable to reason.
