It doesn't really matter what the law, or institutions like universities/schools/police/midwifery departments say a woman is. The fact is that sex matters. It's inescapable and unalterable and it will catch you up in the end.
A female person who takes cross sex hormones is risking the diseases we know are associated with premature menopause - that person (whether they are a trans man, a non binary female or a female athlete who is taking anabolic steroids) will affect their oestrogen levels and so will be at increased risk of coronary heart disease, dementia and osteoporosis, and she will definitely get vaginal atrophy.
A trans man presented in A+E in the USA with acute abdominal pain. Their sex had been changed on their records - so it took a while for the medics to realise that they were actually female, and pregnant, and sadly, that delay meant the baby died.
Another trans man had kidney problems - and was much more poorly than they realised because they were measuring his blood results against male markers, but, he was female. Landed up needing a transplant - and that may not have happened if they were using the correctly sexed chart.
Transwomen will have issues too, but, to be honest, I can't comment about them because I work in women's health, so trans women are out of my scope of practice.
We have a trans woman who regularly calls our department asking for help with her neovagina. She is angry that she cannot see a gynaecologist, reports us to everyone that she can. Of course, as the gynaecologist only has experience of female bodies and has absolutely nothing to offer a person with a neo-vagina, her request is politely, and repeatedly, denied. She wants validation, not help.
It seems to me that trans women who demand access to single sex spaces are more motivated by validation than anything else.
I am busy. I have no time to be spent validating trans women. You are not the same as me, I'm sorry that causes you pain, but, it is true.
No.
