50:50 Parliament Campaign to Encourage Women in Politics now have TWO Transwomen on the Panel

I saw 50:50 women tweet to Sue Pascoe Chair of the Conservative Women’s Organisation some time ago on their #askhertostand, but then I couldn’t find the tweet and thought maybe they’d realised their mistake (can you guess?) and deleted it.

However, how wrong I was! There are now two people that have extremely limited ‘lived experience’ as a female (Sue was a married father and successful businessman and Master to Foxhounds until a few years ago). The other person has said hi on here recently.

I don’t mean to be rude but surely the whole point of encouraging women to stand for Parliament is to help overcome the barriers women face in entering politics. Any barriers that trans people face are rather different. It is also interesting that on a panel of three for their ‘Encouraging LGBT+ Women to Stand’ campaign, there us only one person with actual lived experience of being a woman (I am hoping that Mandu Reid of the WEP was born female at least...??)

And I'm certain there will be very many of you unhappy that a trans woman is posting here and saying this.

Why on Earth should we mind that a TW is posting here? You don't have to be a mum, or even a woman, to post on Mumsnet. You don't have to have views which align with any particular view to post here - you just have to be prepared to defend them.

As for accepting you as what you claim to be purely because you are what you say you are, and that truth about you is to be measured purely by what you say about yourself - that's not the way the real world works. No matter how Stonewall are trying to distort law and reality.

If you you want to donate a kidney or other tissue, it's not enough to say "I'm compatible because I want to be, I'm compatible because I love them, I'm compatible because I say I am." No, you have to prove it with tissue-typing.

If only men can be transwomen, what do transwomen have in common with women? We are both human but clearly of opposite sexes. Opposite sexed people should NOT feel entitled to enter single sex spaces provided for the opposite sex....or feel entitled to speak on their behalf.

BuntingEllacott · 16/02/2021 17:08

Why on earth do trans activists think we don't want them posting fully and freely on here about exactly what they think?

I've got ironing to do, I could do with the respite.

SunsetBeetch · 16/02/2021 17:14

I've archived this thread up to here. I know when threads do get deleted (hopefully this one won't be), sometimes tales get told about what was said and done which are not entirely truthful.

I think Jaz should take the shortwomen gaywomen brownhairedwomen thing to AIBU. It would be well received, I’m sure.

AbsintheFriends · 16/02/2021 17:24

Frightening to see how mired some posters are in the idea they get to define who another person is—who that other person must be, despite that person clearly saying who they are—even though the reality is that's not your right or power to do so.

Frightening to see how quickly the idea that a woman who simly says nothing more than, 'I am a woman' must be greeted with attempts to force your own beliefs that she can't possibly be onto her.

Also frightening that any woman saying 'I am a man' doesn't command a fraction of the power and entitlement that oozes from Jaz's post. Frightening that society and the law doesn't contort itself to accommodate a woman expressing a sincere and deeply-held conviction that society should accept them as the opposite sex, and allow them to inherit a title, or be permitted to join the Freemasons or the priesthood.

Funny how we are told we mustn't 'force our own beliefs' that a man can't possibly become a woman onto a person, and yet the law is allowed to do exactly that when the person is a woman asserting that they are a man.

Impatiens · 16/02/2021 17:24

No doubt you'll use sophistry or claims of "science" to try and claim that I can't possibly be a woman. But I would remind you, you don't get a say in the facts of who I am. The fact that I am a woman.

Why have you put science in inverted commas? There's no doubt about the science which shows the differences between human males and females.

Winesalot · 16/02/2021 17:25

I truly wish that they would take that paragraph and spread it very wide and far. It will make an impression.

HermioneWeasley · 16/02/2021 17:25

@Barracker ‘s magnificent post on page 8 was mentioned on Twitter and I was very pleased to see it hasn’t been deleted.

Spot on

Justhadathought · 16/02/2021 17:25

And yet on this board this is something that happens everyday. I watch as people make every attempt to try and claim that somebody isn't a woman, but can only be what you demand they must be

Being female and in a female body is just a fact.

People can express themselves in anyway they wish...nobody is demanding that anyone conform to any gender stereotypes that they do not identify with.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2021 17:26

The only sophistry on show is plain to see.

lifeturnsonadime · 16/02/2021 17:47

So the top and bottom of this is that I must believe something that I know is untrue and has no scientific basis because it offends the other persons boundaries if I do not.

This is irrespective of the fact that t what I am told I must believe offends my boundaries and has a significant impact on other women because our safe spaces are eroded, along with our sporting chances, chances at obtaining quota positions in business and politics reserved because of the acknowledgement that it is more difficult for women than men to succeed.

It's just so entitled.

One set of beliefs (no matter how unbelievable) must be true and any debate makes us bigots.

@Barracker - There's only one antidote to the situation we find ourselves in, and it's brutally plain speech. So it's no coincidence that laws are springing up and policies being written and public platforms enacting censorship to prevent anyone from using it.

SO true. Keep on speaking the truth.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/02/2021 18:03

Its never about identity. Its always about power.
Power that women don't have

if anyone doubted this before, then i think reading some of the comments on this thread will go some way to convince them...

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2021 18:04

How do you legislate for feelings in someones head and write that into law in a way thats tangible and understable and everyone feels conveys justice equally?

Its like when people post and say ‘i know you’re all going to flame me’ and the post is ignored...

TeddysTigerEyes · 16/02/2021 18:47

This thread has upset me. It’s knocked my feet out. Come and talk to me about women. Talk to me about inequality. Talk to me about how you can help women.... you don’t know women. If you did you would know you could do so much good for women. Real broken women. Not bloody gender politics. Real women who are so desperate and lost there isn’t hope. TALK TO ME.
