Solidarity in Aldi today!

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

@Carouselfish

Secondary teacher too.

In the staff room all my department are eye rollingly gc.

We taught a whole scheme on stereotyping, stereotypical gender roles etc with outcome that y7 are now very 'you can be a boy or girl without conforming'. Hooray!
Also taught few lessons on media bias and how to know if websites and news was reliable. Teach critical thinking, looking at both sides of an argument and hope for the best!

This is really cheering me up. Strength and power to all the GC teachers and TAs out there!

I love this Aldi story. I'm going to look at the website right now for one of those bags. Thank you 😊

SophocIestheFox · 13/02/2021 21:00

I suppose some people do have quite a visceral reaction to Aldi 🤣

Cheap groceries, fascism, much the same really. Easy mistake to make.

picklemewalnuts · 13/02/2021 21:00

Lovely to read this thread. It's remarkable that such an obvious statement of fact is considered 'cult like'. I'm fortunate that pretty much everyone in my life is GC. There's a friend who's all 'be kind', autistic, trauma background, has decided she's non binary. I know a young man who has happily transitioned- again, autistic and trauma background. I know a 16 year old who has socially transitioned and is gagging for more permanent treatment. Again, trauma background, grew up in care. They agree that physical transition shouldn't be rushed, but in their own case, being 16, they are sure of their decision- they've known for 'ages'. So hard, from the perspective of someone over 50, to accept they know their own mind enough to make irreversible physical changes.

talesofginza · 13/02/2021 21:03

Thank you for sharing this story, it is very uplifting! I'm going to look into ordering a tote as well :)

AnyOldPrion · 13/02/2021 21:04

Sounds very Hitler youthy

Middle aged women chatting about tote bags with the dictionary definition of woman on?

Or is it the having to hide our beliefs and moral values as we fight in secret against our rights being taken away that makes you think that?

Igneococcus · 13/02/2021 21:04

When I was out for a cycle ride last summer, I was stopped by a woman with a clipboard and asked if I would do a survey about the cycle path. One question was what my gender was, so I said that my sex was female and that I think gender is bollocks, and she said she agreed and we had a good long chat about it. I mentioned mumsnet and I hope she did come and check it out.

Thislittlefinger123 · 13/02/2021 21:07

Amazing Grin I'd have done exactly the same

Hatia · 13/02/2021 21:09

Sounds very Hitler youthy

Only to a distorted ear.

HeronLanyon · 13/02/2021 21:11

imposter currently at early stages. I replied to the email saying that I was sure that the sender was aware that this was a very divisive issue and that there was very interesting research around completed speech, compelled identification etc. That I would not be encouraging this by starting my meeting in this way. That it it became contractually compellable I would share further and share research etc. Got pretty quick reply to the effect it wasn’t compulsory. As we were. But it’s gonna rear it’s head all over the place. Really respected women colleagues now adding pronouns left right and centre.

Ninkanink · 13/02/2021 21:14

Awesome!

Solidarity.💐

Impatiens · 13/02/2021 21:17

Solidarity cake! Cake Smile

Viviennemary · 13/02/2021 21:21

Never heard of GC. I googled it and got golf clubs. I wish people wouldn't use these obscure acronyms.

Springcatkin · 13/02/2021 21:23

I had sort of seen the perifery of this but understand the GC stuff a bit better and will absolutely buy a bag ( way too old and chubby to wear a t shirt Grin)

Brilliant OP Star

@MoodyMarshall

Hi *@Wearywithteens* most of the teachers I know have seen with their own eyes autistic teenage girls going down the 'Identify as male' path. Ask any secondary teacher if they've dealt with this and they'll tell you of numerous cases. Ditto social workers and psychologists.

Most of us can spot patterns but it's true that we're limited in terms of being openly critical of the ideology.

God, yes. And I ask myself 'am I the only person seeing this?' While others are falling over themselves to use pronouns and (noticeably immature) new names.
Winesalot · 13/02/2021 21:30

Great thread. Well done OP!

Dragonglass · 13/02/2021 21:34

Just popping in to say hi, another secondary TA here.

NeedToKnow101 · 13/02/2021 21:35

I work in an FE college and have asked management for any trans-identified girls, especially those with ASD or trauma, to automatically raise a safeguarding check. No-one has tried to get rid of me. Are schools very different?

Because of the Kiera Bell win, and other legal things going down, it's a good time to raise this at school. The issues are all out in the open now. It's about safeguarding and women's and girls rights. Nothing to do with 'transphobia.'

ShowOfHands · 13/02/2021 21:39

I've just checked with 13yo DD whether she has any inkling of her teachers' opinions. She said her English teacher is full on GC and has an AHF postcard on her classroom door and "gender is a social construct" in graffiti above her white board. She's a bloody brilliant teacher too.

NeedToKnow101 · 13/02/2021 21:39

Sorry; I know the climate in universities is awful. I didn't realise school teachers feel they can't speak out though.

SingingSands · 13/02/2021 21:39

Great story. I'd have done the same.

Where can I get stickers? Never thought of it before, but I'd be up for a bit of stickering.

Impatiens · 13/02/2021 21:40

It's about safeguarding and women's and girls rights. Nothing to do with 'transphobia.'

Exactly!

NeedToKnow101 · 13/02/2021 21:40

That was an addition to my other post...

picklemewalnuts · 13/02/2021 21:40

Showofhands, that's fantastic! Brilliant school and teacher.
