Male Irish student comes 2nd in women’s race to make a point

I’m not misgendering them

Con said all he had to do was a click a box on the form saying he was female and when he turned up, he said he was a woman and no one argued with him

Well done I guess - but I hope that he gives the medal back now he has made his point!

persistentwoman · 13/02/2021 10:02

This will be the only way that women's sport gets protected. When enough thoughtful men like Con alongside the usual cheats start taking all the medals / places / funding / scholarships. Only then will things start to change.
Good for him.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 13/02/2021 10:02

Yes me too - but the fact that absolutely no one challenged him speaks volumes as was the reaction he describes when he stepped forward to get his medal

What is Gript? I've seen it before. What kind of paper is it & who would read it? Anyone know?

hm246 · 13/02/2021 10:15

This may be the only way to make people see sense.

weatherwarning · 13/02/2021 10:17

Trinity Colllege would be very woke. It is one of the top universities in the country. It's good that someone has shown them the impact this has on women.
Self ID in Ireland meant nobody could challenge his claim that he was a woman, even if they wanted to.
Hopefully, this will encourage some critical thinking among those that read this. Unfortunately, Gript.ie isn't really mainstream though. They have done a lot of articles on the impact of Self ID in Ireland, which most media outlets have ignored.

TartanLassie · 13/02/2021 10:21

Now this IS something I wish the Daily Mail would pick up on!!!

nauticant · 13/02/2021 10:23

Gript Media is an Irish free speech media outlet. They waded into the hot water of the very dangerous male prisoner identifying as a young woman and got censored over that. Viewed by progressives as "alt right". Treat with a degree of caution although if they make a factual correct report it should be treated as such.

BruceAndNosh · 13/02/2021 10:25

He did this in 2019? Why is it news now?

weatherwarning · 13/02/2021 10:26

It's interesting to compare his time with the winners of the men's race. He would have had no chance of a medal.

LouHotel · 13/02/2021 10:28

He doesn't run that is also what needs to be taken from this. With the exception of one female runner he beat a group of women who presumably run regularly if they were entering a 5k race.

Looks at the time difference of the male athletes...I hope he doesn't give his medal back, women need to wake up and recognise that kindness wont be reciprocated if they open up their spaces.

RadandMad · 13/02/2021 10:28

Good on him. I can't even imagine how painfully embarrassing it was for him to do this. Takes some balls, if you're not a complete narcissistic sociopath.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 13/02/2021 10:29

I got the impression he wasn’t a runner of any kind, didnt train or anything, just turned up and did it

Significantown · 13/02/2021 10:31

I second the hope that he gave back the medal afterwards.

Yes, didn’t he have some beers the night before - not really top level athletic training (unless you are a 1970s rugby player) Grin

Good for him, as others say - this is a good way of calling out the idiocy.

Beamur · 13/02/2021 11:01

A really good demonstration why women training harder will make no difference at all to the impact of self ID in certain sports.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 13/02/2021 14:51

I love the fact that his name is Con... hope the woman who came 4th got her rightfully won medal.

The only way this will have any traction is if he DIDN'T give the medal back. As a previous poster has said, ain't nobody going to "be kind" to women.
